Looking to replace Moori Medium Tip

I have been using Moori Medium tips for a few years now but am looking for a change. I hit the balls harder than most and the tip tends to flatten out and lose its shape. I am constantly fixing it and wearing out the leather quicker. I have considered switching to a hard tip but don't know how that would effect playability. Any suggestions...thanks!

After using Moori mediums for years, I switched to Sniper tips. I found that the latest version of Moori tips (III) tend to glaze over more easily than the earlier versions. Snipers have to be installed correctly to avoid delamination, but once installed correctly they will hold their shape very well and not glaze over like a Moori. At first the Sniper will feel softer than a Moori medium, but will firm up after a few hours of play. Maybe Varney will chip in here and confirm (or disconfirm?) my opinion.

Another vote for the Sniper. I also like Sumo tips, in fact, I prefer the way Sumos play but would caution you that they tend to lose chunks on miscues.

I didn't like the Tiger Med, but again, the Sniper is a fine choice...

I also went to a sniper from a moori med. A change I wish I would have done long ago. Varney told me so.... I should have listened.

what is the lifespan of a sniper considering you play 30 hours a week..and where can you buy these...also, are there any negatives to the Sniper tip versus the Moori

one negative

The only negative I am aware of is that they are a bit more difficult to install. While I might install a Moori myself (without a lathe), I would not try to install a Sniper myself.

I would suggest Muellers. Can't recall the website offhand. I can't really think of negatives, unless you like spending more...

I play with Moori III M, and while I don't have to do a lot of trimming, it's not carefree, either. I find the Everest tip a great alternative, though it also requires maintenence. I'm thinking of trying a Sniper, after reading so many favorable comments on them.

If you tend to go through tips quickly, why not try a harder tip? Say a Moori III Quick, or another I've heard many good players say they like--the Talisman Hard or Extra Hard (new version).

Ted, I also play an Everest, and like it, but find I miscue occasionally when hitting very low. What do you do in the way of maintenance?

I trim the sides using #320 or #400 sandpaper. I use masking tape to protect the ferrule. For shaping, I use one of those curved plastic tip shapers with coarse emery paper (which lasts much, much longer than regular sandpaper). Once it's shaped, I burnish the sides with a dab of siliva and an unprinted (no ink) matchbook cover, or something similar.

Thanks. I'm have been scuffing the sides of the top only rarely, and concentrating on my stroke and exact tip position on the cueball. It seems the miscues occur when I am not paying close attention, so I'm thinking there's a stroke flaw that comes out.

Most likely that is the case. I know for myself, when I miscue it's usually cafelessness, or I'm trying to do too much with the cueball and I get too far to the edge. I can tell you, though, you can get a lot closer to the outside of the cueball with a smooth delivery than you can with a stabbing stroke, so try to keep it smooth.

My mates all know when I use my WUAWI stroke, aka 'walk up and whack it'. Preshot goes out the window, and only half my brain gets involved.

This year has seen a big jump in my game, a great part due to eliminating the Wauwi. The new 314-2 with the Everest was a good move too.

Another GREAT hard tip is Hercules.
Only if you like a very hard tip though.

Everyone is correct...the Sniper will make you play better instantly. IT HAS TO BE INSTALLED CORRECTLY though. When done properly, it will not lose it shape or mushroom. The big secret with a Sniper is DO NOTHING to it after you get it...just play. Don't pick it, try to shape it, etc. Only thing I recommend is slightly dampening the sides with a bit of spit and burnishing it shiny with a piece of leather or brown carboard. Mine has been on my shaft for several months & I have yet to do anything other than burnish the sides occasionally.
If interested PM me for my shipping address & I'll install a new Sniper correctly for you...$40 includes return Priority shipping. If it ever for some reason needs cleaned up...send it back & I'll do it for free. Makes it look brand new again...a service I offer to all my tip customers.;)
A big thank you to everyone who refered me.:)

Don't do it!

I've used Moori mediums for years as well. I recently switched back to a LePro thinking I would like it......Lord..I miss my MOORI MED.

Yes, they lose their shape -- but buy yourself one of those Porper Tip Tools (with the two shapers and burnisher in one tool)....and that is all you need.

Hmmm........maybe I'll have to try a Sniper. I'm just so used to the Moori FEEL --- I'm hardpressed to try something else after regretting it once.
