Looks like you are getting your pool movie....

You published your opinion on a public forum, no body asked you to state that you wouldn't watch you volunteered it and that opned it up for speculation.
Mob mentality.

The guy stated he's not going to watch and then the mob comes out with pitchforks. LOL

Personally I'm not watching it because Deniro is a bad dude. Lets not forget his controversies and him selling out as paid crisis actor by a political campaign. He basically sold out and he's old and senile. It's going to ruin the movie just like a few of his last projects.

Also, him getting into it with Obama and Trump turns a lot of people off. It has affected his acting or lack of it these days and he only get projects from friends now. If it was another guy then I think people would be much more excited.

We can agree Deniro lost his marbles. Have you seen him even when he's not political?

He's a shell of his former self. The saying goes you either die a hero or you live long enough to become the villain.

This is Deniro.

A lot of you guys think of him as this...

He's this now.

Yep he's not a kid, nor a young man, but NOBODY young plays our game anymore, just look at the crowds at most events. The point is, if he plays in the movie it might get noticed.

I just think pool fans and pool players, professionals included, are very weary of Hollywood. We will have to wait and see how they portray the industry.

I still think they play it safe and remake TCOM because Hollywood have become stale with their remakes. So many remakes.

Let's hope for some quality on the table pool scenes, without the staged trick shots, where the railbirds are in awe of making a wired 4 ball combo that would never come up in a game.

Not true IMO. You need a place to play where a young crowd can have fun and feels safe. Last night young college age kids who were typical “bangers” were having fun drinking and playing while leagues were going on. I have seen groups of women in their early’20’s come in and drink and play. Granted this does not get kids under 21 in the game. BUT….

Pool is growing some and young people who want a non digital off line experience with other people may discover our game. If the game and the players treat them as the game always has… nothing much will come of it. If they are treated well enough some may choose to get more serious. Easier said than done, but IMO a pool hall has to figure out how to cater to a range of people. Can’t be a hard core old school players room with old guys only. Yes, have things that players like, but also fun leagues and a place where total newcomers can feel OK. Planet Fitness has more members than Westside Barbell. For the health of the game we need a bigger, wider base.

I hope the movie resonates with people who don’t currently play.

it’s a remake not named
the hustler 3
or color of money 2?
I am assuming since that's how Hollywood is now.

Martin Scorcese has ripped off a couple of international films and won awards for them. They all do this.

One of the better movies on the international stage and Scorces ripped it off. They won't rebrand it but pass it as their own.

Can't wait to watch it! Pool could use a new movie and I'll watch pretty much anything with Jenna Ortega in it. I'm seeing more and more young people getting into the game and this type of thing can only help.

I rarely go to a movie in a theater, probably less than 1 time per year since I prefer to stream most things at home and am fine waiting a while, but I'll make a point to go see this opening weekend.

I'm finished with DeNiro. There were 2 movies he played in where he didn't even have to act because he just had to be himself and act natural......This Boys Life and The Fan

He can’t remember a script due to his advanced age so they let him ad lib.

I remember a protester calling him out and threatened to punch his teeth down his throat. He looked pretty scared.

There are far more deserving actors to play Newman’s part. Total disrespect by Hollywood to choose deniro.

Your favorites are actors too.

I wouldn't deny my me the opportunity to see a well made movie on a topic i like coz some asshat was in it.

The man makes no shitty movies, really.
You haven't seen his latest mob flik. Absolutely horrible. He's past his sell by date. DeNiro's last good outing was ' Killers of the Flower Moon', he was spot on as the Osage County bad guy. 'The Irishman' was another dog, a bad movie based on a book full of complete lies by Frank Sheehan.

On The Hill
Short script
5/8/2025

I will go with a story that takes place in modern day times.

A lonely used car salesperson is bored with life after the divorce. He meets a gal at a bar that he frequents everyday after work. He plays her a game of pool and she whips his ass everyday. To get her to like him, he practices pool everyday at another bar. One day he meets her at the bar again and beats her and she is impressed. A few drinks later they hit it off and they back to her place.

<sex scene>

Scene starts at the bar....he's sitting their drinking while waiting for her. Struggling to pay the bills he finds an opportunity to make some money after meeting an old timer there. (old timer is to be played by Efren Reyes, famous in the pool world but not a household name) The old timer says, "Have you ever thought of hustling?" He says, "No I haven't thought about it." He takes him to the back and shows him a flyer. The flyer says sign up "Everyone can play....Anyone can win....sign up with your local APA."

He takes up the offer with the old man and they sign up for APA league. Plays a session and does well. Old man seems to be disappointed in how well our main character is beating everyone's ass. The old man says the art of sandbagging is lost and teaches him the hustle.

He eventually makes it to Las Vegas and wins the APA tournament. After returning from Vegas he drives up to the bar in a new Mercedes and meets the gal that introduced him to pool. They both talked and she asked him where he's been. The movie ends with league players arriving for league night and taking selfies with him . She looks at him and sees a gold winner's bracelet and smiles. He smiles. The credits comes on.
How about a time travel pool movie?? Old road dawg goes back in time and buys the rights to all tables smaller than 4&1/2' x 9', so none can be made. Then he ixnayes Carbon Fiber the same way. Buys the rights for shaft construction. Can't make any. Movie ends on a 'Burning Man' like deal where a mountainous pile of 3&1/2 x 7's and 4x8's are set ablaze in the desert accompanied by some 'X', heavy metal and big titted, wet T-shirt Hos!! Oh yeah. I'll camp out for tics!!😂

I like it.

We can go from current deniro to guido corleone and back.

I think a lot of those who have replied are blinded by their own perspective and aren't seeing things through the eyes of the broader audience. Much of the broader audience:

-Hasn't seen The Color of Money. That movie is turning 40 soon and is more than a generation behind us.

-Hasn't seen all of the De Niro films for similar reasons, or would have no problem seeing him in a different role.

-Finds the concept of a protege being coached to the highest levels but struggles with following direction to be a novel and compelling plot line.

-Finds the seedy side of pool alluring and cool.

-Is far more interested in anything Jenna Ortega does than a biography about St. Louis Louis or road tales about how Cornbread Red broke a pay ball ring game one time.

I don't share the concern about the image of pool. Somehow the narrative that 'pool will never be like golf until we clean up it's image' started thirty years ago or so. I don't agree. We've cleaned up a lot with dress codes and warm fuzzy pool rooms and yet most pool rooms are struggling or closing. I fail to believe this is because the image wasn't clean enough. Meanwhile every pool boom in our country has been tied to high water levels of gambling and competition. Just one look at poker proves that a clean image isn't a requirement for a boom.

The series "The Queens Gambit" did a lot for chess a few years ago and it was a cliche story line. But it was well executed and it was enjoyable. I think a lot of the success of this movie will come down to how well it's directed. Will it be another Hustler/TCOM or will it be another pool hall junkie? That is really the only question. You can't tell that looking at the plot summary. Many pool scripts were made into great movies with good directing and acting, and many scripts that had great potential bombed due to poor execution. Only time will tell.

But it's not up to the microscopic demographic of die hard pool fans to make that call. It's up to the general public. Right now pool is doing well internationally but lagging in the USA. When you've got nothing you've got nothing to lose. I think this is great news and am excited to see it.

Movie hasn't even started filming, and we, the pool community, are condemning it before it even gets started, some because of political reasons and others because it's the same-old hustling scenario representing pool. Good grief, man.

I do wonder who the technical director will be for the pool shots/training.

As someone who has written about billiards movies for over a decade (www.billiardsmovies.com), I'll say I'm pretty jazzed about this announcement. Sure, a lot of unknowns, and it's entirely possible the movie will never get made, but the package of a well-known director, well-known actor, and major up-and-coming actor in a movie about pool has the potential to create excitement about the sport, regardless of its focus on the seedier aspects.

There aren't enough of us crazed pool fanatics to fill a dozen theaters. But, with a cast and director like Russel, DeNiro, and Ortega, it could -- maybe, just maybe -- fill a lot of theaters or drive a lot of downloads. That's got to be good news.

Jenna Ortega is 22 years of age and she had her breakthrough as a teen not too long ago and people want to say they love her work. LOL

I doubt anyone was watching her "breakthrough" movies.

She was a child Disney star.

I'm quite surprise of how many fans there are of her on AZB.

What movie was she good in? I looked up her filmography and I doubt you guys were watching the likes of Scream.
