Los Angeles Billard

Hey guys and ''Poolhall Junkies'',

my name is Florian and I'm a Student from germany doing a study abroad semester in Long Beach, California.

Since I arrived in Long Beach I'm looking for a nice pool hall to meet some good playing guys and have some fun playing billard. But sadly I didn't find anything yet.

So I'm staying in Long Beach until the end of december and I would love to play some good pool.

I think/hope in Los Angeles (which is not that far away) there should be a big Pool Hall and probably some really good guys practicing/playing there. I could imagine there is a famous Pool Hall in Los Angeles which I should visit during my stay in california?

So I just hope anyone of you could maybe give me a advice where to go.
Appreciate your comments in advance. :)

Best regards, Florian

There are several that come to mind

1) Hard Times in Bellflower

2) House of Billiards in Santa Monica

3) Mr Luckys in South Bay

there is a new "Sticky" thread at the top of Page 1, called GOPLAYPOOL. it'll give you the halls in LB, HB, NB, Costa Mesa, etc if you're interested in something local.

the guys here, will tell you THE PLACES TO GO, that are infamous.

and while you are here, you need to go to PCH/Beach to TK's (left of Hyatt, between HB & NB). get one of their famous burgers & sit beachfront while you eat & watch the sun set over the Pacific. ;)

oooh, and Tsunami @ Sunset has THE BEST Japanese!

PS - Rodney Morris lives in Costa Mesa.

Hard Times has a lot of top tournaments going on there, you can find everyone who is anyone in pool playing there.

If you are up for action go to Manila Billiards in Carson next to Long Beach. Jimmy the guy that runs the place will match you up with anyone at your speed.

It is only an action room only. I think they only have 4-6 Gold Crown's. It's not a place to practice or shoot around with someone...

I agree with Hard Times if you're looking for strong competition and a variety of formats. Does get got though. Danny K's has a big room full of 9 footers.

If you're a bar box guy, Danny K's in Orange, Bart's Pub in Stanton, Campus Billiards in Cypress, and Shooters in Huntington Beach all have Diamond tables.

I'm waiting for Bart's to open now so I can get some practice in.

Think they changed the name to Epic Billiards .. ??

Ahhh thanks Poolhustler and Jay for the correction. Only been there once back in Feb the week of the Swanee Jimmy was tryin to get me in action and the locals told me all about it.

Florian, I lived in Belmont Shore for over 60 years. Since Yankee Doodles closed the closest place to you for playing pool is Family Billiards in Lakewood. Go up Lakewood towards Long Beach City College and turn left on Carson go up Carson a couple of lights to, I think, Paramount. You go right on Paramount (?) and it is only about two doors down on your left. It will be listed in the phone book and you should call to get specific the address and specific directions. The other place you should absolutely go to is Hard Times. It is only a shell of what it used to be but is still a must see and play in room. Hard Times is only about 12 miles from the Shore. My guess is that you are probably attending LB State. 7tj St to 22 1/2 mile to 605,north on 605, merge onto the 91 (right after South St) going West to 1st exit Bellflower Bl, left to 2nd light Ramona,
left, enter 1st driveway on your left.

What part of Germany are you from? My wife is from the Wuzrberg area but we also spend time in the Heidlberg area as well as Garmisch-Partenkirken.

Good luck to you,

Thanks a lot guys for the quick answers and your opinion where I should go to shoot some balls.
So it looks like I should try my luck at Hard Times Billiards first, seems to be one of the closest one and sounds to be good Pool Hall.

@ GaryB: Im living near Hamburg, the city is called Lübeck.
