Loser Breaks in Handicap Tournaments

I just played in a Handicapped BB 8-ball tourney in Columbus, OH. I was a "3" playing a "2". I have to beat the guy 3-1. I make a good runout, great shot on the 8, he breaks the eight, I make no mistakes and this guy is on the hill. I miss no shots, make a great out and my opponent gets to the hill. If you run a handicap tournament, DO NOT make it loser breaks as well. It will not effect your turn out, I promise. The winning player deserves to break the balls if he wins. No need to "double handicap" the tournament. The one I played in tonight had 14 players in a city of over 700,000, what is that, .000000020%. The turn couldn't be much weaker. Give the better player a chance to prove he is better.

I would like to comment but to tell you the truth, after rereading your post several times I can't make heads or tails of it.

Are you saying that you had to win three games to his one? If so then he is on the hill before the match begins. Did he make the eight on the break and won the match or did that break put him on the hill.

In small tournaments loser break or rotate the break is usually the norm to give the lesser players a chance at the table. For many making the eight on the break is probably the best way for them to win a game.

Either way the better player will usually win.

He's saying that he had to win three before his opponent won two.

Two things:

Eight-on-break wins sucks

Depends on where it's racked as to whether or not it goes often.

Handicapping is sketchy at best.

Handicapping is tough, especially for first time players.
