I'm liking Fatboy for the award. To show up with that much money and just say "flip for it" ... pretty hard to top that in the "gamble" department. And he shut The Tooth up. He deserves honorary mention for that alone. ;)
I was impressed by that too, but that was one single woofing event, even if it was an impressive amount of dough; did any of that cash actually get into action, either backing big games, or betting on himself -- other than the ring game?

IMO it would be a travesty to vote for the flash of cash, when that cash didn't really get into play, instead of voting for one of those guys in the action room that were betting 4 or 5 figures every day -- several times a day, all week long!!

IMO the Louis Roberts Award has to go to one of these guys:

My 'honorable mention' would go to Grady Mathews, who got down himself for 4-5 figures at least four times over the week.

I agree Smorg, < aka Spotasaurus > I can vouch for you being there at least 80-100 hours. There wasn't much action going on that the viewers did not have knowledge of.
I can vouch for that.

What kills me though is how people like to enforce the issue that they know more than others about the subject because they are part of the COMMITTEE and do so by announcing it to all.
It's (the COMMITTEE) all a joke. And, as a kind and gentler Fred, I'll try to explain it without any malice ( I swear ;) ). It's a joke because there is no committee. I'm a one man army, who's assigned to collect votes from the internet forum members.

Them's the rules that were given to me, and it's my job to make sure those that are voting know them. The rules given to me are also that you must be in attendance. Should that change? It's being entertained. Many people still believe you should be in attendance to vote, but to Smorg's point, many people on the internet watched many times more action than several of the attendees.

Make no mistake: this is the most prestigious title given at the Derby City Classic by Diamond Billiards and Greg Sullivan. The award means more to the Derby than many on the internet realize. Action & Entertainment are what the Derby City Classic was built upon.

Here's an alternative, Fred: you must have physically bet on something more than once during the DCC. This would limit the sampling to people who genuinely know who is putting the money out there, or at least who they want to guarantee will be coming back to bet with/on again. Just suggestions.

Everyone has made extremely good points here. As this award has progressed I have seen more people complain that higher profile players win it, because the non-betting populace likes to follow champions. This does not actually reflect the most entertaining nor the person in the most action. Yes, Shane played numerous sets and more people watched him play than anyone else, but would Shane winning the Louie actually assist the DCC in having more Action & Entertainment next year?

Sorry if I sound like I am griping, but I just wanted to offer information to those posters who did not attend. For example, Scooter has been in more action every year than Shane was this year. Cliff usually plays a couple large sets every year and gets alot of attention, but never puts his own money in play nor does he give more than a couple players action during the week.

We all thank Diamond and yourself for organizing this.

For me as a voter and nothing but a voter, it has nothing to do with bets, player caliber, or anything else that people thinking about. It's who entertained me personally the most while in or trying to get action. And I can't say anything about how anyone else got entertained and what entertains them.

For me, I don't believe I picked the winner one time since I've been involved in the voting. (Lil John '05, Keith Bennet '06, Dennis Orcullo '07). But that's why we vote with many people. Everyone's got their own opinion on what entertained them.

Scooter gambled all damn week. He was in a constant gamble. He'd let you pick em. He didn't care who he was betting on. He just wanted action.

I don't know Scooter, but this almost sounds like a gambling addiction to me. I saw him years ago at the Lex All Stars in November of 2000 when he couldn't of been more than 14 or 15 gambling all night on the practice tables, either playing or backing. Unless he is independently wealthy due to inheritence or rich parents, I can't see this as being healthy. I like to gamble too, but not more than I can afford to lose. It seems like this might be like giving an alcoholic a free entry into next years drinking contest for drinking the most and entertaining everyone. Maybe I am wrong, I hope someone is looking out for him. Warren..
