You guys don't all know Louis yet, our champion from the West Coast. I will and always have picked Louis.

I saw Louie play at the DCC this year.... I'd put my money on Louie. ;)

Louis did win twice outta the 3 times he's played in tournament so his chances are pretty good.

i don't think anyone has the "dead nuts" in this situation.. btw i think your new handicap system is too complicated :P

it needs a little tweeking but this is the best time to test it out. We're in between sessions right now and the top 8 players are already chosen. I need to make sure it works for Saturday so that I can have something ready for the next session. What do you suggest that would make the handicap work a little better?

After much deliberation, here's the new handicap system we're going to implement for the final tournament. Its just a small tweek from the old one so for those of you who weren't too pleased with the one used this past wednesday, here you go!

I think there is an error in the D- section. Don't you mean D gives D- last 2?
It reads the other way around.

Just checking out what I would get:)

Whew:cool: Glad that was a typo, cuz I’ll be dipped if I spot Betmore the last two!

B-man,
Don't worry, there's not a tank in Alaska big enough to hold you if you need "dipping".

P.S. - If we're going to play, we need a handicap system that tells me what I need to spot a "Q" player (I assume you've improved some from your "R" rating that was evident at DCC).

I personally think that giving up balls instead of games in handicapped 9-ball tournaments is terrible. C- players and below cannot give anyone below them the last two, the 8 ball, or any ball spots and have a chance to win. They miss every other shot.

Well put Willie. I was unaware you were clocking me so accurately. The “R” rating was in fact right on the money, glad to hear you took the bait. What you were actually seeing was my “R” speed stall.

Don’t fool yourself pal, I can come with my “G+” game anytime.

How is the 6+Last 3 less of a spot then the 6 + 8. Maybe I don't understand what last three is. I thought it was the last three balls on the table. So can they be made out of order?

6 and the Last 3 is slightly less because there is only 1 money ball off the break. There's also less chance for combos compared to the 6 & the 8 where there is 2 money balls. 6 and the Last 3 also forces the opponent to run out more often than the 6 + 8 would.

Cuetechasaurus - I understand what you are saying, however, just about every handicap tournament I've seen is game spotted. There is a major problem with this idea: time needed to complete a full tournament. With game races, a tournament full of C and B players may only take 3-5 hours with 20 or so players but put in an A player or three and that tournament can easily take 1-3 hours more. Also I don't see many ball handicapped tournaments around here, I thought it would be pretty interesting to see the outcome. Its similar to what players would spot other players in money situations. So far its working pretty well. There are a few kinks I need to work out with the system and more advertising to do but with a little more time and effort, this whole deal could work out beautifully.

I used to run a weekly handicap tourney for Jimmy Hodges when he still owned Cue Time in Mauldin, SC. It was spot balls, not games. If you won, your rating went up. LOL Stevie Moore had to quit playing in it... he was giving up every ball to some players.

When I left SC and moved to TX I ran a weekly tourney where they spotted games. The highest rank was 7 and the lowest being 2. All the champions in the area would play in it along with the bangers... It started at midnight Sat night & we weren't done until 5 & 6 am.

The tourney in SC where we spotted balls was a lot quicker. Even with the number of good players in the southeast, you can pull this off much easier than it can be done in TX. There were too many people in TX to know all the players. It also didn't help when guys like Jeremy Jones or Danny Harriman were coming through town. JJ was roughly 17 at the time & I didn't know him (no one knew him at that time)... he got by me in the begining but it didn't take long before I bumped him up. Danny wasn't so lucky because I had met him in SC and knew his speed. :p

The area's down in GA and the Carolina's don't have nearly as many people per capita as the Dallas Ft. Worth area. While there's a lot of good players down there, everyone knows everyone and everyone has the line on everyone. Spotting balls in the SC tourney was very managable.

Angelo's system is not perfect. There are a few kinks that need to be worked out, I will admit to that. However, most players that I talked to seem to like the format. This is the only handicapped tournament that The Pool Room has and it seems that the players do enjoy playing in this handicapped format.

Good job Angelo.

John
