I'll try this again. I posted on an unrelated thread
earlier. I heard that an unknown woman beat
John Mataya, Jimmy's brother?, out of 30 thousand
last week in Louisville. Also heard she only
got 400. Anybody see that one? Details?

No one posted any money?

Eydie, Cardiac Kid posted this on the other thread.

Hondo,

The "unknown" was Larry Nevel's girl friend. She had no idea how to play one pocket (ya shur). Grady "volunteered" to help her. John got chopped up bad. She could play! Ask the guys upstairs she raped on the bar tables. Her backers made the money and left her an insignificant tip. The screwer got screwed! There was so much other action. Grady, the freezer, Keith, almost endless! Cliff gave away another round of tough matches. He's great but, whose got the money now!

P.S. I love that (Ya, Shur) accent Kid. Tap, tap, tap.

Ah, Nevel's girl friend is Rachel Abbink from Canada, one of the strongest woman players in the US these days..... She knows her stuff.. you betcha

Like I said on RSB she must be the best hustler that ever lived because I am CONVINCED that she can't spell one pocket. She plays decent nine ball but she got a can of whoop ass opened up on her by Nikki Benish in an 8 ahead $1500 matchup.

From what I saw neither she nor John could play one pocket worth a flip. It was all a circus show. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY knows what really went down or how much money was in play. I guarantee you that if you ask five different people who sat ringside for the entire event you will get five different stories.

John, i agree with you because I saw the one pocket match and it was dreadful.Saw the nikki benish match too and she can still play very well. One of the bettors got 200 back from John because he didnt know the second set was 2 out of 3.I saw this transaction with my own 2 eyes

Howzitgoin Hondo and Hemi.......Well i was also there sweating this session - I made it through the first race which ended around 5:30 a.m. but then i went up to sleep and didn't see the second race.....Here's what i know about it, and i think it's close to the truth - The reason that i think that, is because Gradys a friend of mine and this is what he told me the next day - ranting about the nitty side bettors (Grady has always hated most side bettors, and i agree with him)......First of all, it was supposedly a real match - no dump - The total bet, orchestrated by Grady and Teddy the Greek was around 25,000, Grady and Teddy the Greek having about one fifth of that, the rest being bet by about 10 different side bettors......Rachel made a strong comeback, coming from behind to win the first set....Grady tells me that then, the nit side bettors only give Rachel about $300 for playing her ass off, and also about half to two thirds of them pull up and won't give John a chance to win his money back.....John then wins the second, and final, shorter race set - but he only wins back about half of his money.....Lastly, i agree with John (Instroke) - I don't think Rachel knows how to play one pocket (sure, Larry and Grady probably taught her a little, but all that would amount to is about 5% of what there is to know about the game) - As for 9 ball - she plays pretty good, but it's a strong womens shortstop speed - not up to the pro womens player level yet..................The Ghost reporting

One Pocket,

I agree with your assessment. I unintentionally overheard Rachel and Grady speaking about the match earlier. I really had the feeling that someone was doing business. Obviously I could be wrong. Rachel does play jam up 9 ball as well as 8 ball. Any woman travelling with Larry has to know how to play one hole. I find it hard to believe he shared none of his knowledge with her.

ps, Yes, John Mataya is Jimmy Mataya's older brother

I can't believe some of the things people say on the net'. What did John Mataya do? Dump himself?
If I had held the side bets I would only have given the bettors their original back, plus 90% of what they won. I know what problems side bettors cause. I had trouble with three of them. When I play, I refuse to allow complete strangers to stick their noses in my business, which, among other things, is trying to win ALL the money my opponent(s) have.
I did everything in my power to stop the sidebetting on the Rachel/Mataya match but I was unsuccessful. John Mataya wants to be the center of attention and he likes to bet on the side.

John Mataya

Thanks for the input Grady. I'd rather hear it from "the horses mouth" anyway. I walked away because of the comments I overheard. Enough said!

Grady! Tell us what went down - we want the unfettered truth!

John
