Lucasi Hybrid

Hey, I'm Apollo. I'm new to this site and pool for the most part. I have only been playing for a month. I started out with a old players cue with a mushroomed tip. I have excelled quickly in the game and am looking into a better cue. I was contemplating the meucci power piston, but a guy i shoot with suggested the lucasi hybrid. I am looking for a nicer cue, that will decrease deflection. I am looking for a higher end cue then a Players, but I don't want to break the bank. Has anyone shot with a Lucasi Hybrid, or do you guys have any suggestions of another cue? I am a 7 handicap in 9 ball. So, I'm really looking for a better cue that will take me to the next level.

Lucasi

My son has and loves his hybrid for the same reasons that many hate it. He likes the feel of the golf club type grip. You really should try one before you buy. It is a production cue so it should be available to try somewhere.

I think you'd love it. I have one. Several in my league have them. Similar to a predator shaft. Take a look at the ebay store for Nielsen's Billiards. A beautiful black one with a break stick and case is about $280. Good deal.

I was about to say the same thing.

... my son also has one. He likes the feel... (though I don't). He shoots well with it. Personal preferance I guess.

you must be a fast learner if youv'e only played a month and are a SL7

giving him the benefit of the doubt, let us assume he doesn't play APA, and instead ask which league he plays in?

For the matters regarding the Hybrid, I've never shot with one, but if you are looking for a good LD shaft and cue, get a predator sneaky. You can find them used for a good price, and new ones run around 300(ish) depending on where you go and/or who you know.

I play with a predator sneaky pete Wood to wood joint and later had Jimmy Reeves do a beautiful wrap on it ,about a year ago I bought a lucasi hybrid because its suppose to be like the predator cue,but its not.I sold it and got my money back and went back to my predator and it may get better than that but nothing ive ever tried can take its place and Ive owned alot of cues

Thanks for all the input on this cue. I don't play in apa but i have played in 4 tournaments and the tournament director said i was too good to be under a 7, as he was. What do you guys think about custom cues?

You should save your money. If anything I'd suggest maybe getting a quality sneaky from a custom maker. They will have 100% of the playability of their more expensive cues while not breaking your bank. Spend the rest of the money on some Accustat matches of the pros & memorize the shot patterns & how they get out. Or buy any of the wonderful instruction material thats available these days....or even lessons. Later as your game matures then you will learn what style & type cue you really like...then you can drop your bankroll on a custom that would hopefully last you many years. Just my opinion of course. Welcome to the forum.

If your stuck on buying a Lucasi I would suggest finding a older one with a radial pin. They hit amazing. I should have never sold the one I had. You will be supprise on how well they hit. If you can, save a little more and get a real custom. Just because I say custom does not mean it's going to cost you a ton. You can spend as much or as little as you like. You can get a great playing cue for about 400 just keep looking. You will find one you like.

I am pretty new to pool/billiards and had no idea what I wanted for a cue so I went with a Lucasi LH40 and a McDermott MG05 to start off with, I was hoping for two completely different cues and thats what I got, and, I didn't want to spend a fortune.

I bought the Lucasi for me and the McDermott for my wife, as it turns out she likes the Lucasi iand I prefer the McDermott . The Lucasi feels "soft" to me, and seems to have less feel. Being new, I don't know any other way to describe it.
