Lucasi LD-5

Dear Forum,

I am an occasional pool player who just bought his first cue, the Lucasi LD-5. As a beginner, I am not familiar with cues, but decided to go with a LD, as this series was often recommended in forums.

I now realised that there are differences between the LD cues, with most having an XTC High Impact ferrule, and a 29in long with a 15in pro taper hard rock maple shaft. My LD-5 however has a 1 Ivorene-3 fiber linen ferrule, and a 29in AAA grade Canadian hard rock maple shaft.

I would be very grateful if someone could explain to me the difference and how it could affect my play. I could not find much about the LD-5 other than what is on the Lucasi product page, so any info about this cue is highly appreciated.

Thank you!

As far as the ferrule gos Lucasi switched ferrules a while back so you will see web sites showing either one.But that cue is a standard Lucasi.
I have a Lucasi and I like it a lot.Don't get caught up in the ferrule question.
It's a nice looking model and they play great.

Many thanks! No buyer's remorse here. I am very happy with the cue and I ask only to learn more about cues. I bought my girlfriend the LD7 and they feel and play the same from what I can tell. Thanks again...

I dont think the ivorine 3 is any drawback at all.

The taper tells you how the diameter of the shaft decrease from joint collar to the ferrule. A 15 inch pro taper will have almost the same diameter the last 15 inches to the ferrule.

AAA grade maple is just a rating of the wood/ maple and doesn't tell anything about the taper. The thinner ld shafts with ferrules at 11.75 mm typically have a conical shape from collar to ferrule. The thicker ld shafts with ferrule at 12.75 normally have a pro taper from 16-12 inches.
