Lucasi Sneaky question

I did a search and didn't find any answer for it...

I just recently purchased a Lucasi SP and was looking for a Z2 shaft for it. Last week, I saw someone in league that has the same cue with a 314-2 (no collar) so decided to try the shaft on my butt and the fitment was different. How could this be?

The 314-2 shaft was a little smaller in diameter at the joint when it was put on his cue. Not only could you feel the difference, but it was visible. I didn't have a ruler, but I want to say it was about 1/32" - 1/16". Now when it put on my cue the shaft is about the same size difference, but larger than my butt. The only difference I saw was that his says "706" on the butt.

With all of that said, did predator make a Z2 shaft that will fit my butt?

Thanks in advance.

For the uni-loc quick release, everything should be the same diameter (0.842"). I haven't seen myself any uni-loc shafts or butts that deviated significantly, but I suppose there isn't any real reason why someone couldn't make one with a different diameter. I would take a pair of calipers and measure your butt's joint diameter. Every Lucasi cue I've seen has also been 0.842", so everything should match up. It may be that on some batches of the Lucasi, they were lax on the working tolerances? Predator does make a Z2 shaft with no collar (for their sneaky pete line) that you can buy, and all of their uni-loc shafts are 0.842" with a pretty tight tolerance, maybe +/- .002".

I completely agree with you regarding the tight tolerances with the predator shafts.

I can't believe the Lucasi Cues have that big of a deviation. The difference has to be about a quarter of an inch between his and my butt. The 314-2's diameter is smaller than his butt, but bigger than mine. It just astonishes me with this information.

There aren't any local predator dealers here, so it's tough buying something online.

Thanks for the info about the caliper.... should be a good investment to ensure the correct size shaft.

That is odd that the lucasi butts would differ like that. I've worked on a lot of Lucasi's (including that sneaky model) and all of them were within a reasonable tolerance of 0.842.

The pred shaft will definitely be the right size, so I guess the issue is whether your butt is off or not. Hopefully yours is not and your friend's is :) Calipers are pretty cheap, $20-30. If you want to borrow mine, let me know!

I would suggest having it made and matched from a Predator Blank. That's what I intend to do myself. Complete with all ensigia's removed from the shaft and Butt.

That will surely provide the best fit/best match ... and you can go sneaky by removing the decals. Good call.

one thing with the collarless sneakies is that it is hard to get the wood shades to match with aftermarket shafts, either pre-made shafts or a matched partial. Unless you have the luxury of having a lot of shafts to pick and choose from....
