I had a cue come into my shop today with the joint frozen about 1/8" open. It will not move either way when attemped by two reasonably strong men. I emailed lucasi and they suggested WD40. I am a little worried about using that because of what it will do to the wood.

I quoted the owner for a new insert and pin install because that was the only way I could see to fix it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use liquid wrench(same thing)spray it one way let it stand for 10 mins then turn it upside down and spray let it stand 10 mins---pull apart!!!!!!then sand and buff the pin a little..will stop it from happening again....
Had to do more than a few this way

WD 40 works.

You can spray the WD into some aluminum foil so that you have enough to wet an artists paint brush then swab it onto the exposed threads and let it seep down.

As mentioned, after the cue is apart, sand the pin smaller. Since the thread and insert don't touch when together, it doesn't matter by how much they don't touch, .000003" or 2 lght years, same thing.

You could also try using freeze spray. They sell it at electronics stores, I used to use it to test electronic components for heat problems. It evaporate very quickly and will shrink the metal components. Make sure you get one with a thin straw so you can get it right into the joint and not on the finish.
