Lucky Guy

So, this past weekend I went up to Alsip, IL to play in the occasional Red Shoes 1pocket tournament. My game has been suspect lately, not getting much opportunity to compete, but my wife, Gail, insisted because it had been several years since I'd traveled north and seen my good bud, Monsignor John Lavin, Red Shoes proprietor.

We went up Friday, did some shopping and hung out at one of our favorite hole-in-the-walls, then went to the tournament Saturday. Long story short: I went undefeated on the A side, through a short field, and lost to Piggy Banks in the finals.

It was great to see my hermano, John, several of the old hands at Red Shoes -- *everyone* there can play -- and be forced to play Chicago-style 1pocket. I learned a few things up there this time, as always.

But, here's the thing: Gail sweated the whole thing like a champ. From noon to 1am. She had an e-reader with her but when I was playing she watched and afterwards told me she even tried to predict what shot I'd shoot.

Lucky guy.

congrats on the strong showing up there bro. i've made the drive back down I-55 a couple times with my tail between my legs before....strong field on their home track.

monsignor lavin is fukn-a alright. great host, probably knew every single persons first name in his joint....

gail is a champ and special person - rumor has it she has tolerated drunken kollegdaves and millers in the figueroa pad in the past..... how did you get so lucky?!? ;) (just kidding my man....)

(btw....first horses run at fairmont park saturday at 7:30....)

Thank you. And yes, it is very tough up there and Monsignor Lavin rocks.

And Gail loves you guys.

What is Fairmont? Do you speak of horses running in circles with small men onboard so others can wager upon same?

a *great* movie BTW

Lou....Shame on me for taking this long to chime in. It was an absolute pleasure seeing you AND Gail. It was such a nice surprise. One of these days (when my VERY ABLE STAFF can do without me), I am going to pack the "Mrs." and the pool cue and head to St. Louis for some "R & R". As I told you before, we both MARRIED ABOVE OUR STATIONS. Tell Gail "Hey". John L.

*Any time* John. Great seeing you, Brother.

you let your wife meet your pool friends?:eek::eek:

Not me either.... but Buddy and Nick stayed at the house for a Clinic a few years back, and she loved them. She doesn't play pool, but she was a great hostess.

So much that she didn't even blink an eye when I said Darren and Johnny are camping out in the guest rooms for a night or two next month ;)

She doesn't play, but I really don't want her too, sometimes even League is way too much to subject a wife too ;)

I was "this" close to going to Red Shoes that day, wish I had to finally meet Lou. We've argued on here a few times, but this is the internet. I've actually played pool and drank pool with a few liberals from NPR, and we had a blast ;) Didn't talk politics, but why would you with a Gold Crown and cold beer right in front of you
