LURKERS: Why they never join in the postings.

Well, I only joined a few days ago & have been busy reading just about everything here. All good stuff. The one thing I noticed is missing (unless I'm too blind to see it) is a forum for new folks to introduce themselves. Seems most other sites have this & I think it's a good way for newbies to get their feet wet.

Just a thought. I really do have to praise these forums though, so far I've come across everything from the helpful to the entertaining. Good work folks.

ditto ditto...

I agree, other boards i've been to require an intro as a member's first post... it might be a good idea at least to have a new posters' folder.

and, perhaps there are many lurkers because these peeps are not interested in participating, so much as they are interested in the topic. They link through a search engine like Google (i.e., for searching "international pool tour") and pick up a thread that way.

For that reason, I think lurking is important. Afterall, I believe I was a lurker before joining. My impetus for joining was my desire to post a few cues for sale.

As for AZ, you guys are awesome. The other boards I've participated in (different topics) have long-time members with HUGE egos, whose only purpose is to contradict every idea that comes along and belittle new members.

Good work! all of you help me learn something new each time I visit.

I have to be honest, I registered pretty much straight away. I will be posting, just depends what catches my eye & how much time I have!

i too am new im from the uk and have decided to post this to get my post count up so you dont think im lurkin LOL

this is a great forum with new subjects coming thick and fast

each topic has so many replies within a couple of hours that i think many people will feel that they have nothing to add so dont bother

i have to say i generally talk rubbish and lots of it i have an opinion on everything from global warming to whats happening in LOST so you will here a lot from me

i apologise here and now in advance :D ;)

To all the lurkers out there.....we were all lurkers at one time. Maybe for 10 minutes, or 10 months. Don't be shy, you don't have to be a Champ to post, and everyone has their area of expertise. as far as Flaming goes, forget about it.....I have yet to go to war with anyone here in almost 1500 posts, but I'm also a pretty easy going person.

I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on what ever they know something about!

I don't think I'm alone in my reasons for being a lurker for quite a while before I posted. I used to fish through the forums for several months before I ever made my first post and in my case, it was lot's like walking into a new pool room. You're the new guy, so you don't want to come off as being cocky, but at the same time, you feel as if you have to prove yourself to some degree in order to be accepted by the regulars.
The forums here are frequented by players that play at pretty high levels, and sometimes even pros. And, many of the members seem to be actual friends and have actually met at different billiard events around the country. So in my case, it was a little intimidating to actually begin to post. Don't know what exactly got me started, but I can only imagine I must have come across something that struck a nerve in me where I just absolutely had to throw my own two cents in.

Scott actually doesn't have the money... He has to streetwalk in the gay districts of Atlanta just to afford a single cue....
Hey. A "man's" got ta do what a "man's" got ta do . . . .

Actually I guess I'm afraid what I say will sound stupid, sort of like my previous post.

I enjoy reading the post and have learned quite a bit about the game, equipment and players. But with my limited knowledge
of pool I don't feel like I could or should jump in the middle of your conversations.

I would like to thank all the people who do post. This forum has a large number of very intellegent, creative and humorus regular posters that keep me coming back daily.

Maybe I will be more comfortable one of these days and post more.

Thanks again.
