CueCaps

Howzit Guys,
I need to ask for your help again....:sorry:
I made a nice cap for Myron's (Alpine) M. Vollmer Cue..
The butt side cap does not fit on M. Vollmer's cue..:frown:
I used Atlas Billiard's Standard 5/16' x 14 Threaded Brass Insert.
Does anyone know what Micheal Vollmer's Joint Pin Design differs from the Brass Insert I use?
I think Myron said it was an alignment problem.. Not Pilot Fit or Pilot Depth.. The Brass Insert Standard Specs. are: .500" Pilot Diameter and Pilot heigth is 1/8" ..

??Could it be the fit is so close, it's rubbing and binding because the Threaded Insert's internal threads are not aligning and binding with the Pilot???
Thanks in Advance....:)
Alton:grin-square:

Replies to Below Post:

Dave S. - Yes, it helps!! Thanks for the suggestion/Info.. Good One..
I do that for Schons and B. McDaniels Cue too.. I hope that is the problem.. I mentioned that in my e-mail to Myron.. He'll reply soon..
Myron- Sorry to put you thru this!!!.... I hope it can be "hand held" While retapping it..
Micheal Webb - Thanks for that info... For clarification, Just in case someone didn't understand the term used here now.. Pitch, meaning "Pitch Dameter"... not "Pitch" as in Threads per inch..

The Answer from Myron from Michael Vollmer Via Berny:
"It is just the diameter of the pin........there are diferent sizes on taps you can buy all in 5/16-14 you have to find anybody with a bigger one.Same problem when you try to use a schon shaft on a Vollmer Cue".
Thanks Michael, Berny and Myron..
Thanks Dave Sutton and Michael Webb:smile:

sometimes i have a problem with them and i just run a tap thru the insert a few times. some 5x16-14 shafts did not fit on my mcdaniel cue. after i ran the tap throught the insert it was ok. plus sometimes you get some epoxy inside the threads of the insert. that also will make the pin not fit

hope this helps

The cue caps in question fit all my other cues (8 cues in total) and thread on without any issues.
It is only the Vollmer that has issues.
Will try my machine shop at work to see if this makes a difference.

Thanks for the idea.

i understand. the 5x16-14 shaft i had fit every cue i owned except the mcdaniel. running the tap in and out a few times should help. the outside thread of the pin is prob too big. need to open it up some in the insert

Could also be more the pitch than the actual thread size, There is at least one floating around out there that is 5/16X14 and the pitch is thicker that what we are using as a standard, I had a bag of them but don't know where I got them, (HAD)
