Hi Guys,

Does anyone play at Country Club in Chelmsford? I remember that Steve was selling tables and they were talking about making room for a dance floor. Does anyone know anything about it?

I know that Country Cue in Peabody shut down, so i was wondering about the rooms.

Thanks,

Pete

Country Club

I used to play in Chelmsford quite a bit in the 90's. (I was quite the banger back then, so I wouldn't know anything about the serious players) I moved out to Shirley and started playing at the Billiards Cafe in Ayer. I have sinced moved back closer to Chelmsford, but still play league in Ayer. I also have a table at the house now, so I don't get out as much as I used to.

I've been meaning to get back up to Chelmsford. I think they still have a weekend special of $10 for unlimited pool up till 6 or something like that. They also have (or used to have) very good restaurant quality food and a full bar.

My understanding is that they took space out of the under 21 no booze side for the dance floor.

I think they still have in house league and some pretty serious tournaments.

By the way, I have graduated from "banger" to a solid "C" player. I'd be happy to make a trip up to CC USA to play for fun (or cheap sets with a similarly (un)skilled player.

I was just up there a few weeks ago. The "under 21" side still had a full run of tables....not much free space for a dance floor. I didn't talk much with the owner, so no clue about any potential future plans. All I know for sure is that table 6 and table 8 play great....and offset my lack of skill so well, I can't wait to get back up there for another go at it!! :) :) :)

I'm planning on heading there for the A/B tourney there this Sunday. I'll send you a full report on the status of the room ;) I have not been there in years ( I think the last time was to watch a Joss tour stop where Alex P. played in, before I had any idea who he was ). An old pool buddy I have not talked to for a while has been enterring in the tourny and I'm hoping to see him there to catch up on things.

State of pool in MA is pretty sad compared to other areas, the room where I learned to play ( poorly ) Mr. Billiards is shut down, the room where I met my wife ( Chalks in Westboro) is shut down. Both pretty much from the smoking ban. I used to go to Boston a bit, even had a chance to see Rodney Moriss play pre-jail when he was a road player. The best room for "players" was Country Club and another that I loved is Brighton Billiards, it's where I finally got some lessons on the right way to play. That one I think is still open, or at least the sign is up.

Brighton Billiards is closed. Has been for a while now. It is true that there aren't many places to play in the area.... Chelsmford is probably the best room for tournaments....(full bar, good food, and seating).

I exchanged a couple of PMs with him when he announce the table sale. He was taking a portion of the room that was always empty anyway and converting it to a dance club (teenage I think) with a separate entrance and full wall separating it from the room. So it would not interfer with the remaining pool room.
Country Club is still alive, maybe a little less well, but still alive.

Oh no, that's sad. I keep meaning to stop by there but they always had parking issues and I did not want to bother looking for a space. Now it's too late. Was a nice action room, best kept GC3s in the area with tight pockets. I think the owner owned the building so hopefully he's doing OK, he was a super nice guy. I actually played Karen Korr there when she was right off the boat so to speak. No clue who she was, just a tall woman with an accent. Did not remember her name then, but when checking out some TV matches a few years later I recognized her.

Anyone go to Snookers in RI? I have only visited that place a few times but seems to have a rep for money games and stong play. Their Wed. 9-ball tourney is pretty good too. Unfortunatly it's the only one in the area that gets more than 10 showing up for it that I know of. Not counting bar table stuff.
