Made some acrylic ferrules

I made the mistake of cutting the antler with a cut-off disc and smoked it, and the garage, and ended up barfing from the smell.

Turning it made almost no smell compared to burning it with a cutoff wheel lmao.

Here's the ferrule all finished, ignore the lack of facing on the shaft, I was in a massive rush before league and threw this ferrule on a junker shaft just to get it done.

that's funny. i can almost feel the smell. no bandsaw i presume?

end result looked ok. gonna be high deflection but i like the idea

Believe it or not, I have a bandsaw... I am just extra lazy some days and use the cut off to hack stuff apart haha.

Yeah, these types of ferrules are really for looks and appearances. I'd never put one on my playing cue. Mainly teaching myself some techniques for turning for when I start making cues. I'll be using antler and horn for rings and joints.

cool, you will have a follower in me. with moose and roe a good bit of the of inner part is porous af. and even if it doesn't look it, it's often weaker. but on a big long moose antler you can get inlay material too..

be interesting to see how a joint turns out.

Yeah, every antler is different. I've worked with antler before when I was making pen parts or pipe stems, and sometimes they're almost useless because the core is so soft, and other times it's almost petrified and rock solid all the way through. My best luck has always been with bleached antlers from deadheads I have found while hiking or hunting.
