made up a pool game with some friends. thought I would share.

R3DS!X

professional failure
Shooting around one day I had a basic idea for a new game. Making the rules as we played it a few times I thought I would share it and see if anyone has heard of something like it before.

I call it 120. It's a points based game and the minimum objective is 120 per player. The objective score can be increased by increments of 120 to handicap different skill levels.

Points are gained according to the numerical value of the ball sunk. Whoever is shooting must aim for the lowest numbered ball on the table and sink it before shooting for a higher value. Any illegal balls pocketed will be spotted and ball in hand behind the kitchen for the other player. Once the player sinks a higher value ball they must then sink the lowest value on the table.

Rack up 15 balls with the 1 ball in the middle.

Hope people have fun trying it.

it sounds like a form of rotation.. I actually played a game similar in China. however, to win, a player must reach 61 or higher. seems really popular over there.

You have an issue here with the points. You have a max of 120 per rack so you can't win unless you run out the whole rack or play multiple racks. You also can't put the 1 in the middle on the break because you have to hit the lower numbered ball on the table "Whoever is shooting must aim for the lowest numbered ball on the table and sink it before shooting for a higher value. ". Unless you expect the break shot to be a jump shot to land on the 1 in the middle of the rack.

The other rules are a bit confusing as well, what do you mean "pocket a lower value then a higher value"? And then back to the lowest value??? So I can shoot the 1, then the 14, then the 2, then the 10, then the 3, then the 13??

i kind of like it. it's like rotation but alternating high and low numbers. whoever gets to 61 wins, i guess as 120 is the total of the table.

Sounds interesting. I like the snooker-like aspect of "pocket a low-value ball and you get to shoot at a high-value ball."

Except I don't understand racking the one-ball in the middle. If I need to contact the lowest numbered ball first, it needs to be at the apex.

What do you do with balls pocketed on the break? Count the points or spot?

Do you play it as a call-pocket game?

Do you only need to "contact" the lowest number ball, or pocket it? (i.e. can you use the lowest number ball for a carom/combo shot?)

The break is an exception. Placing the one ball in the middle tends to leave it in a better spot to be shot at. Or I guess they could be racked in numerical order with the one at the front.

The 120 points is the total of the rack. If someone hasn't run the rack out then you rerack. If someone of low skill is playing high skill then the higher skill player aims for more rack (like 360 or 720).

No combo shots. Carom is fine if you hit and make object ball.

Sounds like a twist on rotation games. So I would think that your rotation skills would serve you well in this game. Like playing One Ball, playing nine-ball in descending sequence. :)

I like it, should be fun. :)

Balls pocketed on break are points.

Whether you wanna play call pocked or call shot it slops count is up to be decided between the people playing.

Thanks for the link, never heard of it. Im still pretty new to pool. Only been playing about a year.

Rotation is THE game in the Philippines out of where THE pool players come from (someone had a great comment about it "never bet against a Philippino or Shane, when Shane plays a Philippino, hold on to your money and just enjoy the game"), so get to know the game, or at least learn about it if not play it.

You need to tighten up your rules a bit, you can't really have an exception to the break for hitting the lower numbered ball in a rotation game, although with friends does not much matter.

Same thing for this "hit lower ball then a higher ball" thing, need to have some details.
