Madison Bob Griffin Jump/break Value

would need some pics and specs. Did Big Bob make it or Little Bob? I currently play with a Madison Bob Cocobolo sneaky, since 2001. Best playing cue I have ever had the pleasure of holding. It broke my heart to order a new cue two months ago and retire the Bob, but the cuemaker making my new cue (Brent Summers) played with a Madison Bob too and loved the hit, so I know he knows the hit that I like as well. Anyway, post some pics and info, If it's a plain jane jb, I would think 225-250 would be a good starting point. Think I seen a purpleheart sneaky go for 250 a few months back.
I don't have any specs on it yet and not sure if father or son made it.
This cue is actually part of a set a friend bought 7-8 years ago and sold the j/b off to another friend who has removed the clear finish which in turn has removed the signature.
As you can see from the pics (if they load), it does have a bit of space in between the points that I think would be an easy fix and does not affect play. The cue is straight as an arrow and hits like a train.

Keep in mind that I am a huge advocate for Madison Bob cues when reading this.
For starters, The cue has been refinished, and not a very good one. The clear that Bob uses doesn't yellow or lost luster. Again. mine is 12 years old, and still shines like the first day I held it.
Second, without the MB on it, I would lower the value as well. Little Bob was making cues for awhile and they weren't bad, but there was something different that Big Bob did that I can't put my finger on that Little Bob missed. I'm not the only one who can tell the difference, hence the desirability of a Little Mad Bob cues had diminished over time after Big Bob got sick. By the look of the age of the cue, I would say it was made by Big Bob, but again, without the emblem hard to say for sure.
Honestly, I would not buy the cue. not even for $100. probably not for $50. No offense meant by any means, as again, I am a huge MB fan. I just figure the cost alone of putting a new finish on it would be at least $150-$200. Factor this in to a cue that will be just used to jump and break seems a bit much. If you have already bought it, use it as is, or wait for some MB fanatic to make you an offer over time....

That hit you describe, I am sure sure I know the 'hit' you refer to...this cue has it!!
Bob's cues have a very crisp firm hit and while it is a j/b cue, this cue can and may be best served to be used as a player...it plays that well!!
I do know this cue was used for several years by a pretty good bank player...

Here's mine (pardon the battle scars). I would say if you can get a new finish on it cheaply, you could still get 200-250 out of it.
Im sure there are those out there who know more about them but I have had at least 15 to 20 over the years. Bob lives a few hours south of us and a mutual friend used to bring them up and I would buy them or knew someone who would. Most of these were brand new and back then you could get a real nice cue for around $300. As a lot of people know, the older cues are more sought after and in most peoples eyes are better players, which I agree with 100%. Not taking anything away from the later Griffin signed cues but just going off experience they seem to have a little different hit. I had had a few older cues without a signature but another way to roughly date a cue is by the pin. All of the cues I was getting in the late 90s had the stainless radial pin and were signed between the points. I cant say for sure but it seemed like in the early 2000s is when I first noticed the brass pin and the signature around the buttcap area. His cues are real popular around this area but the number you see for sale has drastically went down in the last few years.
As for a price on yours, if its in good condition and straight like you say, im sure if you listed it on here you would get some decent cash and trade offers. I had a jump break that sorta matched a plain SW I had and it didnt last long, if I remember right it had a satin finish or maybe an oil finish. If by chance you do decide to sell it for $50 be sure to let me know because I will take as many as someone can stack for that, finish or no finish....:grin:
This is the only one I have left today. It has a 3/8x10 pin and is one of the first cues he made.
