Magic Chalk Review

For the topic: I think this is great news! Go go go!

As for magic chalk: it's a little more pleasant to use than Blue Diamond and more "creamy". Can't say for durability and long-term usage yet, but I do not like to chalk often at all.

Master's is not even close to any of them. But everybody likes different things :)

every time I show a good player magic chalk the first thing that they do is hit right near the miscue limit successfully. Then they miscue by hitting outside the miscue limit. I wonder if this is universal or just random?

Ive had a few players do the same thing, but I didn't tell them that it prevented miscues. I told them that it sticks to the tip better than almost all other chalk on the market. Not all of the players I've let try this or given it to did this.

I've only had one player that went back to Masters and that's because he didn't want to chalk every shot with Magic Chalk because it was a lot more expensive than Masters. He is older and has a PSR of chalking before every shot. He did agree that it was better than Masters though.

LOL. That's pretty funny how you did the "let me google that for you" and then you actually did? Is that some sort of thing you came up with? pretty cool

Where does all this fall in Dr. Dave's extensive chalk testing?

I think Dr. Dave rated it very highly. He did say that if you chalk EVERY shot the miscue differences become smaller. But from what I've read a reduction of miscues is only one benefit. It is supposedly cleaner and longer lasting. I just ordered 2 of Victorl's leather chalk cases and will likely try Magic Chalk in them.

Thanks Dave. You right, Dr. Dave did rate it the highest. Personally, I've shot more than twice as many off side shots before chalking than what Dr. Dave advise, but I'll only use "his" numbers only ;)

I was not going to respond, but you are also right, it's not always about the NOT chalking after each shot, but it sure is nice just worrying abut the shot and not looking for the chalk.

It's less messy, MUCH less chalk on your hands and table, which means a LOT less on you shaft. And when you need to cheat the outer limits of a shot, it's nice to have the confidence to do it. I mean, confidence is 90% of the game, the other half is mental ;)

I just wanted to mention that I also seem to be getting more spin on the ball. It wasn't really noticeable until I started shooting back-cuts with spin. I am able to spin balls in at more severe angles. Of course, I am not a scientist, but that is my observation.

Thanks Mike.

Very nice of you to do this.

Mike is my first sponsor of a pool player, and he's going over and beyond what I expected. He's called me a few times already. Told me he's letting everyone try out the chalk. He wanted more than one Magic Chalk patch so he can put them on some other shirts as he's playing in some tourneys before and after the OPEN. How cool is that

Just a nice guy to business with, and hope you do well at the Open. You are the kind of guy companies would love to sponsor in the future.

So, far I feel like I'm stealing having you on board. Thank You.
This is great when a sponsor take a shot with a player. Glad to see that is Mike appreciating the opportunity given to him as opposed to other players once they get a sponser and not promoting them as I have seen in the past. I hope this works out and other players follow the lead here. Good luck in the open and I hope you both do well

If people want to see the original information, it is available here:

Also, the procedures I demonstrate in the following video can be used by anyone to easily do their own comparisons so they can judge for themselves:

Where does all this fall in Dr. Dave's extensive chalk testing?
I finally got around to testing more chalks. All of the results can be found in the follow-up quotes beneath the original video here:

chalk comparison resource page

All of the brands I have tested to date now include: Master, Master pre-flag, Lava, Blue Diamond, Kamui, Silver Cup, Magic Chalk, Predator, and Great White.

My bottom-line conclusions still hold:

If you chalk before every shot, it doesn't seem to matter which chalk you use. They are all equally effective when the chalk is applied properly before a shot. I have not been able to measure a difference in performance among any of the chalks tested when the tip is chalked before a shot.

Magic Chalk has surpassed all other chalks in all of the tests concerning how long the chalk remains effective on the tip. So if you don't chalk properly or well between shots or games, Magic Chalk might offer an advantage over other brands.

Enjoy,
Dave
