This might be a stupid thought here, but it would be easy to remove a spring or cut a piece of wood to keep the ball tray down if you want to play with a real measles cue ball. It's not a difficult fix, doesn't damage the table and can be reversed at any time. The only downside is that the CB goes into the regular ball area instead of at the break end. Unless he's charging quarters this is a good solution, my buddy's table is set up that way.Valley, same as the league here.

Modern Aramith magnetic balls play indistinguishable from their non-magnetic counterparts.I‘ve seen those ’top’ cue balls....but it was 15 years ago...they weren’t so good...maybe they are now.
