Maintaining Lizard Wrap

I'm new to the forum, and there seem to be a number of knowledgeable particiapants.

Any advice on how to care for a lizard wrap? More particularly, the wrap is hard and slippery when wiped with a damp cloth but quickly becomes dull and "greasy" when playing. My hands don't sweat much and they are not particularly oily. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chuck

Neutral shoe polish or saddle soap both put a protective seal on the leather. I would discourage you from wiping it down with water. Let the natural oils from your hands work into it and it will fell better and better. Just like a baseball glove. Let it break in instead of wiping the surface off all the time.

I've done a little leather working in the past and from my limited experience I'd recommend a quality leather oil like those sold at Tandy Leather stores. Try www.tandyleather.com and ask them. There might even be a store down the road from you.

Thanks for the advice. The cue maker who made the cue and installed the wrap had recommended that I NOT use traditional leather care products, supposedly because of some unique properties of the lizard skin. He suggested using petroleum jelly. The petroleum jelly seems to contribute to the greasyness. Any thoughts on his recommendation? Chuck
