Maintenance of Leather Wraps

Hi all.. I was wondering how do you guys maintain your leather wraps? Do you just wipe it down with a damp cloth? Apply any lotion to it, such as mink oil or kiwi shoe polish? Whats the way to go about it..

I have an Omen cue with elephant ear wrap and I wanna know the correct maintenance methods.. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I use Lexol Leather Cleaner and Lexol Leather Conditioner. I apply the cleaner with a terrycloth wash towel and buff the wrap with a clean terrycloth rag or wash towel, then I do the same with the conditioner. Works great on leather cue cases too! On a light colored leather I use Lexol Neatsfoot leather dressing to prevent any discoloration.

I think Lexol products are the way to go. My friends in the Ferrari club all go with Lexol to clean and keep the leather seats and dashes in good shape. After thirty years of playing pool I have a new Judd cue with a leather wrap and Lexol is what I am using on it. It is easy to find, most auto parts stores sell Lexol products.

Don't let leather get dry.

Hmmm... Ok.. So I just follow the instructions provided by Secaucas on how to apply the cleaner and conditioner? Do i have to let the cleaner on conditioner rest after application or can i immediately use the cue or put it back into the case?

Wrap

:thumbup:I use mink oil use a rag to rub it on , 2 to 3 min. later rub off excess , once a month . Hopes this helps .

It rubs the lotion on its skin. It does this whenever it is told.

No need to let it rest. After you have applied the conditioner, and buffed it well with the clean dry cloth, you are good to go.

I know this is an older thread, but just has become relevant to me. ...Does all this conditioning make the leather almost too slick? I have never owned a leather wrap cue before, but I have one coming with a smooth leather wrap (a Schick).

How does leather compare to linen as far as grip goes? I would think that if you polish it up too much the cue might just slide out of your hand. No?

There are times when my hands sweat so much, my opponent doesn't want me touching the balls (because they'll get dirty and won't roll straight!).
So, I've got this McDermott cue with a leather wrap that's about 20 years old. I've never done any kind of maintenance on the wrap - nothing! Yet, the wrap is still in excellent shape - it looks as glossy as it did when new. If I used my cue as a walking stick in the Amazon jungle, then I'd consider using some magic potion to keep the wrap nice and fresh - maybe something like oil from the scent glands of a red-necked hummingbird!

I am not sure what to do to maintain leather wrap, most cues I have owned as of late have had it, my present cue is about a year old. I just wipe my cue down with the paper towel that is damp after washing my hands and then I do the shaft. Works for me.
