Mainting a Dime shaped tip

Is it just me or is this the impossible dream?

I have tried several tips, kamui, everest, talisman buffalo, ultraskin, talisman pro, and a few others I can't remember.

No matter the tip, in very short order, my dime shaped tip becomes nickel shaped. Out comes the Last4ever and I reshape.

Is that just the price of keeping it at that profile or am I doing something wrong?

Triangle tips and the Last4Ever tip tool.

I have the last forever dime
I scuff regularly a very light scuff
Realy just running it over the tip once every 10 or so innings

I rarely need a re-shaping....I chalk by grinding the edges....don't need much chalk in the center.

"Inside English" or "Outside English"

meant that to be in a new thread...

After initial shaping, your tip conforms to your style of play. IMO, if your tip always ends up at a nickel, you should just convert to that shape instead of fighting your style.

If you are trying to maintain a dime, and it keeps flattening out, leave it alone and play with it as is.

Your style of play ie how much center ball you use, how close to center you stay in general, how hard you hit etc etc etc all have a bearing on your tips final shape. Youre trying to keep it something it doesnt want to be. Its not only futile, it wastes tip leather.

Tip is not broken in yet. Once the layers are fully compressed it will hold the Dime shape. I usually have three to three and a half layers left on the side wall when my tip is fully broke in.

Bang a lot of balls around shooting hard or Per Bob Meucci's video, Beat Hell out of it with a Hammer. It works.

Very interesting take. Thanks.

Well...
- Try playing softer :)
- Try Phoenix, Talisman or O'Min. They're classically Snooker tips, but there are also 14mm ones. I love my Phonix waterbuffalo S.
- My Ultraskins M holds the shape very well. Tigers (Sniper, Onyx, Everest) really didn't, nickel was OK.
- You will be shaping regularly, though.

Good luck!

Obviously I'm slow on the uptake because I can't get my head around how some define those terms.

Isn't it just "outside english" would be away from the pocket you are shooting at, and "inside english" would be towards the pocket?

I had someone explain it to me at league and I just couldn't understand the definition given.

Look at it as the cue-ball, the object-ball, and the pocket as an angle....

IMG_3933.JPG

In this diagram, A is the cue-ball, B is the object-ball, and C is the pocket....
...if you put right-hand spin on the cue-ball, your cue is INSIDE the angle...
...if you put left-hand spin on the cue-ball, your cue is OUTSIDE the angle.

This makes logical sense, but I have been playing with my current tip for a few months now and it still doesn't hold the shape.

Made the mistake of re-shaping a well broken in Triangle the day of my League nite a few weeks back. Just my ' bring her back to life' full reshaping of my players well broken in, playing tip......misssssstake:eek:

I only got minimal shots prior to start. Still 'furry'. Next time I touch it, it will not be before any match that matters so I can pound it down, re-break it in :bash:

-Kat,

To the op .... I agree with the previous comments on breaking in, but if your still loosing shape, just gradually go up in hardness, till your happy. Most of the better hard tips will hold shape for months, without loosing grip.

Yep. That's why I don't make a mess with kamui. I don't use it like I'm painting a fence lol

My theory is dime shape is better fit on 12mm.
Where as nickle shape fits 13mm better.

I hope you see the logic ! :yeah:

I usually reshape every few sessions, and go through tips about every three or four months. I currently play with three different tips and the Triangle holds its shape the best, only reshape it every six to seven sessions. I'm fanatical about maintaining my tip.
Hope this helps.

And, the theory about the tip conforming to your playing style... I done believe that to be true, but you can look at the evidence and come to your own conclusion.
