making a cue

Have you ever heard of someone take a old baseball bats and turning them down for a cue, shaft and butt? I am having afirnd do this with 2 ash baseball bats from Louisville Slugger. What do you think of the idea?

I made a plane jane cue out of a slugger for a guy. It came out pretty good. It was kind of a pain because the handle on the one he gave me was barely fat enough to make the joint end. It worked out though.

It sounds like an unique idea. However, once the cue is done, only you would know it came from a baseball bat. I would also think that an ash cue (butt & shaft) would hit very stiff. If you like that type of hit, I guess that would be OK. Just not my "cup of tea".

Also, straight ash would be rather uninteresting (IMHO) without some inlays or ring work.

Two things. 1. Why not just get a nice piece of Ash and make the cue?
2. If the bats are old and worthless then they may have hairline cracks in them. Bats break all the time and many don't completely break but do crack. I don't think I would waste my time or take a chance reusing an old bat, nor would I destroy a new bat at a cost of like $35.00 to $60.00. You can select a nice piece of Ash big enough to turn a whole cue from for around $10.00

Thanks for the tips, yes the bat idea, is unique and the quality of the wood is good this application, no issues with cracks and defects. Yes I actually do like a stiff hit, and would want a shaft made as well for breaking. Now to identify the cue, I have a friend that can do lazer etching and we will put the MLB logo or the Louisville logo (semi altered to avoid trademarks issues). it would be a hell of a break cue. Another design element that I will divuldge will make it even more noticiable and you will have to wait for the finished product. it might be some time. 6-9 mths
