Making Delrin no so slick...

Good Evening guys,

I play with a very light grip which is fine when I am holding the tacky clearcoat. When I grip on the delrin buttcap, its very slick in my hand.

I know delrin wont hold a finish but is there anything I could put on it to give it a bit of a tack?

Thanks in advance,
Ian

I would probably mention something like beeswax that's used on the seams of table slates to make It a little tacky, but that, and just about anything that I can think up right now would also attract dirt rather quickly, and It would really show up on the white.

With a Delrin butt cap, your cue is probably a decent one at minimum, so this may not be an option, but if It were just a beat up player cue with no collect-ability value then some shallow grooves cut in the cap may help provide a little more grip. I often do that on joint caps that I make from delrin to give a little extra grip, and It helps to prevent mishaps such as dropping a cue or shaft when pulling them out of a case. On jump cues I sometimes flare the very bottom of the cap.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I agree, it seems like anything I put on it to give it tack, will also attract dirt very quickly.

I have used a super-glue finish ever since I started building cues, I always finish over Delrin and haven't had any lift off yet that I know about. Just my opinion.

You could also lightly score it with sandpaper 320 grit, or 400. I'd mask off the buttsleeve, and 1/8"-1/4" of the delrin, to make it easier to polish back up later on. A fine grit scothbrite pad would work too.

Or, you could go on ebay, and search the cue bumpers, they have some that cover the the whole bottom inch or two of the cue. Slip on type.
