Making leather tips

https://www.leather-dictionary.com/index.php/Thickness_of_leather

"Cow leather is so thick that it is usually split into two usable parts. An un-split cattle skin has a thickness of about 45 millimetres."

45mm = ~1 3/4"

I am a little confused by the info in this article. Having skinned more than one cow, I could not state that the hides were anywhere near 1 and 3/4 inches in thickness. Perhaps up to an inch in the neck area but the main cow hide(back, sides, belly) is thinner than 1 and 3/4 inches.

I am not dissing you, Patrick, but the info does not match what I have removed from cows we slaughtered.

It's just a website I Googled - after hearing what some experienced folks here had to say, I think 45mm (1 3/4") must have been a typo there.

But it still seems that cow/buffalo hide can be thick enough to make one-piece tips.

Thanks for not dissing me - I don't think I could take any more. :)
