Movie Maker is a pretty decent application for basic editing. Poke around a bit more to see if Dell gave you anything else. Otherwise, we'll work as if you're using that.
As for the Firewire comment above, if I remember correctly, your computer does not have Firewire support - so the issue is moot. But there is no need to contemplate an upgrade since you are not working with streaming data, rather simple file transfers, and USB 2.0 is more than adequate for this. As a point of reference, it might take 10-20 seconds to transfer a 10 minute movie from your camera to your computer. You might save a second or two with Firewire 800. [If you had a DV camera, and transferred data that way, Firewire would be a good alternative].
