Malachite??

There is no reconstituted malachite. There is fake malachite, manufactured malachite substitutes, plastic that looks like malachite, and some other polymer malachite look alikes. All cues I've ever seen with malachite inlays have been real malachite.

Incidentally, malachite is toxic. Breathing very much malachite dust very many times is not a good idea. Those guys in Russia who made sinks and counter tops out of it learned this the hard way. If I did much grinding/sanding of malachite I'd do it in a well ventilated area with a mask on.

well, there is 2 or 4 different grading in malachite. the banded malachite are the better grading & the malachite without any banded they are lower grade.
as for the azurite malachite. this stone is not reconstitued. is natural lapis & malachite combine together when it dig out the earth. as for the chrysocolla

Malachite

Hello all.....

First let me introduce myself. My name is Vince Sangmeister. I saw my named mentioned in a reply to a question regarding Black Boar cues so I figured I'd join up. Regarding Malachite....Yes...it is a real stone. Considered a semi-precious I believe. It's mined predominantly in Africa as I recall and while mining the dust is HIGHLY toxic. The people who mine the stone are underpaid almost slave labor but the mine owners don't really care since they eventually die off. Or so it used to be. Personally, just to avoid the real thing there are knock-off resin materials out there that look just as good and you don't have it on your conscience that you're perpetuating a miners death.

Sorry if it's a downer....

Vince.

I've done lots of lapidary using malachite and if overheated, it can split easily along the striations. And the malachite pictured in this thread looks very real and not fake - to me. As with Cryscola (sp?), Malachite is a copper containing mineral hence its green or blue-green hues.

Malachite is not reconstitued, only pure. I have a Blud with some simple Malachite and I like it:
