As promised, the IPT player meeting in Orlando was a mandatory meeting for all IPT Members. One player has dropped out of the tour for personal reasons, and due to unexplained absenses for several more, there are now eight spots open on the IPT Tour.

There will be four qualification events in Jan & Feb 2006 that will qualify eight players to receive tour cards. These events will be double elimination and the winner of the winner's side and the winner of the loser's side, in each event, will win tour cards for 2006.

I encourage anyone who thinks they have what it takes to play on a serious tour for serious money to visit the IPT web site and fill out an application: www.internationalpooltour.com

Also listen to the player meeting so that you can be aware of what an IPT Tour Card is worth. When the qualification events come around, maybe it will be you who wins a tour card??? :)

Deno ~ This is all so very exciting. These will be 8 very lucky players. Can't wait to see where the qualifiers will be at.

Deno...What if we already filled out an application before the Sept. 30th deadline, but didn't get picked...do we fill out another one for these qualifiers?

It wouldn't hurt to refile again. Takes less than 10 minutes, even for a slow typer.

New data pool to sift through.

I did the application and listened to Kevin for the entire thing. He has a lot of great ideas as far as getting not only himself paid back, but to help the players get paid. I do believe the whole thing can work because he has the money and the know-how to put this whole thing together. He also has lined up some pretty good people to assist him in this venture. Sam

Don't think they'll be lining up for this...but I could be wrong!

I just got an email detailing the "qualifier" tournaments for the 8 open spots for the IPT. The entry fee is TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS! That's pretty steep, for just a small chance at MAYBE getting an IPT tour card. Afterall, the 150 players picked now, paid ZERO, and will only pay $200 entry for the 2006 events that are scheduled.

that's gotta be a typo! must be $200!

2k for a chance? ya good luck with that. Wasn't there a tournament in Vegas a cpl years ago that was supose to pay a million with a stupid entry fee like that? Seems to me it never happened because they didn't get enough entries.

I've been meaning to ask 2 things,

1. Have any of the players from the KOH been paid? Checks cleared?

2. Has anything KT said about how much a play will make on the tour been put in writing that would be worth a damn in court? The 100k a year guaranteed spesificly.

I don't think this is unreasonable at all. The IPT has already stated they don't want hundreds and hundreds of ball bangers crawling out of the wood work for the qualifiers.

For the players that feel $2,000 is to high, they probably don't have a legitamate chance anyhow. I have watched plenty of our stronger local "shortstops" gamble on $2,000 a set, dropping $2,000 for a chance at an IPT card seems a no brainer.

I guess it's put up or shut up time isn't it? If no one shows up for a $2k qualifier I would imagine your chances are pretty good if you decide to enter.

Why aren't the 8 spots filled by people who dutifully applied on time? This seems terribly unfair to the players who submitted their applications. Doesn't the IPT have 3000+ applications. Why not just choose 8 players like you chose the other 142?

John

I believe there are 16 spots open totally, they are going to pick 8 and leave the other 8 for qualifiers. Could be wrong though, but I think that's the deal.

That' not what the post says...

The title of this post is "8 Slots Open"...not 16. Regardless, I'm with John on this one. With the thousands that applied ON TIME, why are they not considered, and picked for replacement spots? Sounds wierd to me...

Exactly, if they are PLACING 8 people then 8 spots are OPEN, right? Either way I think it's funny also, but it's their show, I am sure there are good reasons behind the decision. I could be wrong about the 16 spots, it would only make the 4,311th today for me to be wrong about today.

It should ad a little more to the backstory and subplot of the IPT to have
players that "played in" and made the tour.
A few big names out there will make it and they should be able to
use that in marketing.
Almost like a monday qualifier or alternate winning/doing well in a PGA
event.

$1,000 to Double ($2,000)?

If I recall, in KT"s address, He spoke of $1,000 qualifiers. How then did it DOUBLE to $2,000??? Anyone?

I thought that would be the most fair way to do it. I just recently heard that all 150 players were already picked before they even stopped taking applications. I don't know if this is true or not but it sucks to think that you might have had your application in on time but never even have been considered.

I believe the $2000 entry fee is supposed to weed out the players who probably shouldn't be there anyway but I'm not so sure that making the entry fee that high will have the desired effect. Most players that I know that only play pool for a living, whether they try to act like this isn't the case or not, will have a tough time coming up with $2000. So, in reality, they're also weeding out the guys who don't have the money and don't have a stakehorse. Also, the people who DO have the money are most likely not playing the best pool because they probably work instead of play pool all day.

Anyway, I do think that the "fair" way to do it would be for them to just have picked 8 more people from their list of applicants. However, this is a private organization and, while we might not like it, they have no obligation to adhere to our idea of "fair". I just want to play, damn it! ;)
