Manila will be busy this Sept...

Dazz had an humbling experience from the match with the Legend. It seems the legend pulled several tricks(magic shots) and Dazz learned a lot watching the Meistro. But Dazz wants to match up again with the legend. That is news in brief.

Damn! You have no idea how much I regret not being able to travel to the Philippines for these tournaments! It's just not possible for me this year due to circumstances beyond my control! Hopefully next year there will be similar tournaments and I can attend. The Philippines are my favorite place to be, even without the tournaments, but tourneys like this are icing on the cake!

Looks like I finally lucked out on my plans for Manila. I will be there from 09/11 until 09/21. I sure appreciate Blowfish providing us with this information. He and Jay have both been very helpful to all AZ'ers when it comes to visiting the PI.

I will also be taking a certification course in welding while I am there to use in my art and other endeavors. The Country also has great training for Professional Divers, Commercial or Amateur Pilots, and machinists of all types. You can squeeze a pool vacation and a training trip all into one visit for a very reasonable cost if you plan well ahead.

Hotels should be available and reasonable, as the Chinese are dropping reservations like crazy after the recent tragedy involving the bus hijacking. I hope that the Chinese players will not be affected by this apparent people's boycott. These things happen everywhere, and our prayers are with the Hong Kong families of the Victims.

See you guys there. Just listen for the Alabama accent,...it is very popular in Asia (smile).

I have not heard any cancellations from any Chinese Team. I just recently spoke to Team Hong Kong and they are eager to play. See you soon RC.

Maybe it is too late to ask but what was the score at the end of the match?

Pan Pacific

I came to Manila yesterday, and went to the new (to me) place in the same buliding as Pan Pacific hotel, just a few minutes walk from Oneside.

Its a poker club with 3 beautiful tables, tight pockets good for one-pocket!

The guys are in action there all the time, and since its virtually in the poker club, it seems easier for the players to find backers when they find a prey.

Yesterdays biggest matchup was Ronnie Alcana vs Dennis Orcullo. The handicap was a new one - at least the first time I have seen that: They played 10ball, race to 21, Dennis giving Ronnie the 8, and Ronnie giving Dennis the 9!

It may be an ego thing, both giving a ball, hehe. But the more I got to think of it, I believe this kind of spot is somewhere between matching up even and one player giving the other the 9..

Anyway, Dennis was up 20-17, blew two good chances in the final games, and Ronnie took it 21-20.

Gomez played the recent winner of Guiness Tour in Indonesia, Jundel..
Gomez gave him the 8 in 10ball, race to 20. This ended up hill-hill, Jundel coming out on top. Gomez was bit unlucky in this match.

I actually got a one-pocket game with a local player Buddy. He is a good friend, but told me he had a chinese backer, so I didnt feel so bad when I nailed a 3-2 win:wink:

Going back there tonight to sweat some action and maybe be involved in some myself.

Sounds like there is and will be alot of action in and around Manila for the next few weeks!!

Awesome!!!

Sounds like a great place for one to WATCH top players and wager on it.

What is the best place in Metro Manila for a mid-level player (A- to B-) to find low dollar action in a safe environment during the evening hours? I am a solid player, but don't particularly care to give my money away to Manila shortstops. I'm looking for short sets of 8 ball, or one pocket for 500p or less, just enough to have fun and not stir up too much attention.

Anything near the EDSA close to Mandaluyong? Anitokid mentioned a lot of places in another thread, but I'm curious which ones Canos would find the least hassle and safest / fun. Good food on site is a plus!

For you guys in Manila, do they allow you to travel on the MRT LRT with your pool cue?

Thanks for all the info!

What are Canos?
Curious that you know about EDSA and Mandaluyong?

Nevertheless, you will have to take a taxi from LTR stations to any pool hall anyway so I would recommend just getting a taxi. The are very inexpensive and safe. You can take a pool cue/case with you anywhere but I wouldn't walk around with baggage or a cue case especially at night. Again - take taxis and it will be cheap and safe for you.

One Side, Star Billiards, Makati Cinema Square. PM AnitoKid and he can possibly meet up with you and give the the best info.

You can find low level action anytime/anywhere. Makati Cinema Square has many, many players of all levels and you can get a game for $10 or $20 or whatever. Not many people play one pocket. 9 ball, 10 ball, Philippine 15 ball rotation are the main stays here.

Talk about short stops - hundreds of them and many, many players that should be on the tour but have no sponsors or some other issue but there are so many unknowns here that can beat or play even with any pro in the world - it is amazing.

Jeff, I think he means "Kano"s....as in "Ameri-Kano"! :D

Krypto, The two top rooms near EDSA Mandaluyon would be Elbow Room in Metrowalk and Paeng's Skybowl inside Robinson's Galleria.

As for the pool cue's on the MRT/LRT yes they would let you, but at the entrance there are guard who checks all baggage for incoming passengers in case there are any dangerous items.

But I would take Jeff's advice concerning taking taxis because the MRT/LRT gets full, a lot!

In addition, the only station that has a pool room close to it would be the Ortigas MRT station with Elbow Room and Paeng's Skybowl. Once you get off, then you'd have to walk there or take a taxi there.

Hope this helps in addition with what Jeff said! :) :)

The players have started to arrive since yesterday...

There should be lotsa action...

Anyone care to share?

Thanks Kaduku! Yes, you are right, Cano as in an Americano. You will be called that on occasion if you get around.

The MRT advice and pool room recommendations are much appreciated. I will use taxis, but I get close with the MRT LRT to save a little coin and get out with the people.

Keep us updated on the action guys. I look forward to all three of the tournaments.
