This has been explained here before, but briefly, the sleight-of-hand is in the response to the message from the ebay scammer. Usually the phishing message comes via email, and when you click on the item in order to look at it, you are routed to your browser and prompted to log in to Ebay. It all apears to be normal, but since the spoof email is a total fake, you are not actually logging into Ebay, you are entering your login and password to a HTML page on the scam site.

I had this happen to me. I caught it just as I hit send. First time I didnt catch it. It was a very good email. I changed my account emmediatly. You may want to talk to ebay to see what you should do. If they got into your account they can know all your info. You may be able to change your ebay ID and keep all your feedback. Good thing is they cant get your Paypal or anything else via this scam.
