I had the privilege of acquiring one of his cues recently and let me tell you the quality and craftsmanship are second to none. I have played with alot of cues southwest , scruggs, mottey, kersenbrock, and a few others but let me tell you his cues are unbelivable and balance so well. The quality and precision of the ivory work he does is second to none.
I had the pleasure of letting a local gentleman and collector look and play with this cue, and he was floored by this cue and the craftsmanship when i told him what he charges for a similar cue he didn't believe me.
I cant believe he hasn't come up more here as i think he is someone that is soooo under the radar for his cues.
Hes a player as well as a craftsmen so the feel, balance and feedback of his cue is without question! And if he learned alot of his art from Ron Haley then that should give you a idea!

ill post pics of the cue tomorrow but all i can say is i'm sold and will be ordering another from him!

ebony forearm with floating abonya burl and ivory points, ebony forearm, ivory joint and buttcap, snakewood butt with ivory windows, and touched off with ostrich leg wrap. thanks mark for help with pics

Looking forward to seeing this cue. Hows the balance ?

Where is he located - how long does it take to have a cue made ?

Does he have a Web site ?

Thanks

If this is the Mark Smith from Arkansas, he also has a very nice pool hall. . . I visited there a while back on business and had a blast.

His room is flowing with memorabilia from allot of famous players of old and the cues he had on display were stunning.

I really enjoyed myself there and the local crowd was very friendly.

I'd say that from my visit, I got the impression that he was well in-touch with the game of pool, in an old-school manner. The whole feel left me wanting to see his cues, and when I did, I was impressed.

yes hes from arknasas and yes thats is his pool hall, my camera went down and my backup isnt the greatest so ill try to get some pics tomorrow with a buddies camera, i dont want to sell his work short.

Had league tonight and had a chance to really put it through the paces and like i said before it plays lights out better than anything ive ever used, and everyone was askin where my cue came from and who made it, it has turned heads like no other cue ive ever owned, and just for the record a few of the guys we played tonight are die hard jw fans and scruggs guys, and their shooters are well lets say what id be scared to take out,,, they were very impressed with the cue and its craftsmenship, they are lookin him up as well, and as soon as i mentioned haley had taught him alot of what he does that really intrigued them lol! was a very humble experience!

heres his web site marksmithcues.com i really think for the price and his work once his name gets out there hes gonna be one of the greats and he loves ivory!

It was stated on his website that he learnt quite a bit from Mr. Ron Haley.

His cues should be of quite high standards, given the influence of Mr. Ron Haley.

yes ron haley taught him a ton and that alone should give you a idea of his attention to detail, but playability is second to none

I checked out the websight and to be totally honest i see nothing at all that looks like a Haley. The quality may be there but the design isn't.

posted the pics and details of this fantastic cue, had the privelage of talking to mark today and hes trully very particular about his work!

Just a quick thank you for the kind words. It is true Ron Haley was my original inspiration for cue building and he has taught me a lot of what I know about cue work. Every time Ron stops to visit he has his an example of his latest work and it is always awesome, if cue building was like 9-ball he would have to spot me the 7 and the break just to start.

Thanks again
Mark

this gentleman belongs at the top! bar none nothing i have ever played with is like his cues!

I have to bump this to the top because bar none this cue has turned more heads and played better than any cue i have ever owned! More compliments from cue critics and collectors in my area than any other cue i have ever had the pleasure of touching or playing with! Hats off to you mark!

I am a fan of Mark Smith. He's in Russelville, AR and his pool hall is Beezers.

I've been an customer/acquaintance/email friend of Mark since 2004. Here's a tuxedo cue he made for me in 2006.

He worked with me on my preferences - 60" long, thin butt (which required a different butt taper).

IMO...You won't meet a nicer cue maker and he will work with you to design your cue.

Thought i would post some pics of my Mark Smith Cue. Like mentioned earlier in this thread it shoots lights out. It is one of my playing cues and im glad i have this cue in my arsenal. Also this cue was raffled for a good cause at Mark Smiths pool room. I will be buying more of his cues in the future, for sure.
