i don't own a table , so i want to go to the pool hall and practice some drills. i wanted to mark some spots on the table. what can i use or this?

Paper hole reinforcer circles you can buy at any office supply store are the best.

You can turn the chalk upside down and lightly twist a chalk circle onto the cloth too. Just be nice enough to rub it out when you're done. I'd check with the owner to make sure he doesn't mind. If it's not brand new cloth, it shouldn't be a problem.

I have someone who rubs the chalk in the cloth like that and it takes me a week to get it all out even using a vacuum. LOL

I use coins sometimes, preferably dimes. For the cueball, you can use two coins about 3" apart and just set the cueball in between. For the object ball position, you can usually use just one coin for anything but a straight on shot with follow. Obviously you put the coin on the opposite side of the direction the object ball will be traveling and you don't want the cue ball traveling off a rail and back over the coin, but that's easy enough to avoid.

Good luck!

Circle stickers that you would find at office depot/office max work well. They come in different colors, and are usually used for labeling. The ball can roll over them, and they do not harm the cloth. They are easy to take off. I use them on mine at home. Scott Lee showed me that one.

You could just go buy a hole puncher, punch out a coupla pieces of notebook paper and use that

i use the small napkins you would find at the bar. if you're playing on big tables, that surface area is usually ample enough space to use. there's never a shortage of them and it makes no mess.

The paper donuts don't affect shots or ball rolls, but I haven't figured out anything that is quick and effective for cue ball shape and position.

The staff at my local pool halls prefer me using paper donuts over chalk. Its less messy and easier to clean up than chalk. For me, donuts make it easy and quick to set up the same repeatable shots.

For what its worth Phil Capelle spends an entire chapter on shot setup with paper donuts and a yard stick in one of his newer books.

reinforcers (paper donuts) are okay, if else you could buy tailor's chalk which is way better than pool chalk (it's white and is a chalk by nature while pool one is not, it's an abrasive) and easier to handle (especially if you manage to find one in form of a pencil).

I don't know what kind (if any) damage this presents, but you could also wet the top of your finger wth some saliva and mark the table with that. It dries up, though.
