Have been told this guy was a monster awhile back and I'm disappointed I never got to see him play. A guy told me he walked into Hardtimes and offered anyone the 7 ball when the place was full of champions. Hard to believe, so does anyone have any stories or anything to say about Mark Tadd?

A few years back (when they were still having the NM Open) he came out with Billy Palmer to make the rounds. I wound up playing him the second day and had the laugh of my life..His break cue looked like a fence post! It looked to be about three inches in diameter at the butt and was probably 70" long. When he leaned it against the wall it looked like a post as it was unfinished and had the hue of sawmill rough lumber. I picked it up and it seemed to weigh between 2 or 3 pounds. I never questioned the legality of the post, we had a few laffs and I nearly beat his butt. He made a bucket of money playing the guys that came up out of Mexico.

Mark was looking for the golden tip-or something

The last time I saw Mark Tadd Play he was using(borrowing) Jay Helferts , Chuck Starkey cue at the DCC in 07. Mark would practice and change the tip,and change the tip and change the tip. Very nice guy, approachable - mark

Mark Tadd pulled off the best heist Hard Times in Bellflower has ever seen. Imagine him being a totally unknown player and laying down a several month long stall. When he let his real game come out, he put all the top players in the room in shock.

I don't have any crazy stories but I met Mark last year in Reno and we hit'em around for a little while. We joked around and had a good time. He seemed like a real nice guy. I even let him win a game or two!!

Russ......

I'll tell you what a cool guy he was.
Once when he was in an after hours match and won some pretty good green he walked around and gave a jelly to all of the spectators that were there. Have you ever seen anyone do that before? That tells a lot of what he is.

In Dothan Al in the late 80s or early 90s I saw Mark offer the room the 8ball.
Archer was there as were many other very good players. Dothan tournaments were always popular with the souths top guys.

No one moved a muscle. David Grossman ended up taking the 7 and started off strong going up 5-6 games. THEN Mark got loose and won a game. He then ran off a seven pack and it was all over.
I believe my memory is pretty accurate on this. I remember the silence think to myself... "why the heck arent these guys jumping up".
Someone ask grossman if they are around him these days.

I also watched him break for hours once in SC. Rarely or never hit a ball afterward.. just broke and looked at them then repeated.
I asked him why practice the break that much.. he said he knew he would run out if he got a shot after the break. He said it without a smile and dead serious.

I also watched him and Scotty play once on a Bar Box. Scotty got the 8 and played unbelievable putting up 5s, 6s and 7s. Mark played equally as well if not better. Best pool I have ever watched and the most fun ever watching.

I have a similar story about Mark practicing his break. A friend and I were sweating some matches between our own matches at the Reno Open in the Mid 90's . Mark was doing his usual rack and break routine. a young man 14 ish ask him. "Mr Tadd, why do you practice your break so much?" Mark turned to him and with a small shrugg and a total seriousness, said " Shot comes up a lot" My friend and I could almost not control our laughter. The way he played at the time he was damn right it would come up a lot for him.
