I saw Mark Tadd at the DCC but did not know who he was.
I was curious how strong he really played and if anyone had any stories?

Try doing a search on it, I remember reading a lot about him.

New players don't know much about Tadd and that is kind of sad. We need more of a historical archive site for Billiards.
A university billiards club should take that project on.

Search here but be prepared.... theres lots of talk and you can get lost in it.

The short of it is that he played as well as anyone I have ever seen in my life. Could have been better but he was up there with Efren IMO. Of course Efren says that before coming to America he played much better in the 70s. Many don't dispute that either.

Tadds top era was too short lived and he was very eccentric. He did everything well and combined that with rarely missing.

I was lucky enough to see him play some and even practicing it was easy to see his prowess. I watched him and Scotty play on the barbox with Scotty getting the 8. ST was playing to his top level around then. It was the best offensive pool I have ever seen in one match by both guys.
Another railbird made the comment that he had never seen so many 7s and 8s in his life and he was about 70. It was fun to watch

Many one day we will be able to go back in time and pluck out all the top guys in their prime and have a Jamboree. Now that would be worth seeing.

With a month of practice, Mark made the top ten in two divisions at DCC this year (with about a zillion players in each) and was the only guy to hang a loss on Larry Price, the Bank Pool champ. If he devoted himself to pool for a year, I think he would have a chance to be the All Around champion at DCC.

Jay, I think he got a month of practice between matches at the Derby City. He was constantly practicing when he could find a table. I think he played more pool than anyone there. It was cool to see the drive he had to hit balls while he was there.

if mark dedicated himself to pool he would be a top pro-like top 2 or 3. he is that talanted, I like him and am his friend, I encourage him to play and support his effort anytime he wants to play. I gave him a spot in Vegas if he wants to move here to play. The offer is still open.

he came to play for sure, and he came up big considering how little he played before the Derby. I hope he comes back full time

You can see him play on at least 2 Accu-Stats tapes:

1992 Bicycle Club Tournament, Davenport 13 vs Tadd 12

1993 Sands Open 17, Sigel 13 vs Tadd 9

Good idea

He got beat by one game in the davenport match. I would play anyone in the world one game. The luck is a big factor. This guy can play and if you ever watch him you will see the raw talent. This dude has firepower that could be very dangerous to his opponents.

Just get in the box with him and see if it's all talk. This guy, at one time, was offering almost EVERYBODY weight.

if he dedicated himself to play he would be a top pro, peroid. Top like Ralf, Archer, Busta. Right up about there-and no lower. its true take that to the bank. but he wont be in action playing pool, he dosent "like the person it makes me" so he plays an occasionnal tournment tourters everyone and disappears, he has a free bed in Vegas should he want to come here to play, the offer stands.

I think he still lives here in Utah. I remember watching him getting ready for the DCC down at Shooters. He would throw all 15 balls out on the table and run them out in rotatation at will, ridiculous how good he is.

They had a big dog round robin tournament and I got to play him a race to seven eight ball on the bar box. He had already mathematically clinched the tourney so I think he let up a little and let me win a couple games.

I have heard stories that 10-15 years ago he was ducked more in this country than ANYBODY .. big names would stear clear

there are also a few stories about Tadd in the book "Winning One Pocket"

That's the fact, Jack. Even Johnny politely said no.
