I was curious how strong he really played and if anyone had any stories?

Jay, I think he got a month of practice between matches at the Derby City. He was constantly practicing when he could find a table. I think he played more pool than anyone there. It was cool to see the drive he had to hit balls while he was there.jay helfert said:With a month of practice, Mark made the top ten in two divisions at DCC this year (with about a zillion players in each) and was the only guy to hang a loss on Larry Price, the Bank Pool champ. If he devoted himself to pool for a year, I think he would have a chance to be the All Around champion at DCC.

A university billiards club should take that project on.
Search here but be prepared.... theres lots of talk and you can get lost in it.
The short of it is that he played as well as anyone I have ever seen in my life. Could have been better but he was up there with Efren IMO. Of course Efren says that before coming to America he played much better in the 70s. Many don't dispute that either.
Tadds top era was too short lived and he was very eccentric. He did everything well and combined that with rarely missing.
I was lucky enough to see him play some and even practicing it was easy to see his prowess. I watched him and Scotty play on the barbox with Scotty getting the 8. ST was playing to his top level around then. It was the best offensive pool I have ever seen in one match by both guys.
Another railbird made the comment that he had never seen so many 7s and 8s in his life and he was about 70. It was fun to watch
Many one day we will be able to go back in time and pluck out all the top guys in their prime and have a Jamboree. Now that would be worth seeing.

1992 Bicycle Club Tournament, Davenport 13 vs Tadd 12
1993 Sands Open 17, Sigel 13 vs Tadd 9

Just get in the box with him and see if it's all talk. This guy, at one time, was offering almost EVERYBODY weight.JustBelowPro said:Any tapes where he actually wins one??? With all that raw talent top player in world talk.
