Mark Wilson

I thought I'd replied to this thread but I guess I haven't. I took lessons with Mark Wilson (two day session, his rates are on his website: http://www.playgreatpool.com) and thought it was excellent.

I am currently going through some hard times trying to implement all of the changes to my form that we made. It was pretty interesting, he said that my strength was my stroke and fundamentals, but that it was also that which needed to improve to advance my skill. I feel that once I make the stroke my own and improve the accuracy and precision that my game will improve by leaps and bounds. Like Willie said either in this thread or another, I'm concentrating on trying to deliver the best possible stroke each and every time, which is damn hard right now!

I believe that Mark Wilson has worked with Jerry Brieseth in the past and teaches the same basic principles (heavy emphasis on fundamentals). When I thought about taking lessons, Mark Wilson was one of the top people on my list. His instructional articles in BD and commentary on Accu-Stats led me to believe he would be an exceptional instructor, as well as what I had heard from people on these boards.

However, I happen to live closer to Jerry Brieseth so I had to go to him instead ;)

JDB,
I believe Mark refined his game and teaching with Jerry's help. I have taken lessons from both, and their stroke teaching was identical as far as I can remember.

Rackin Zack,
You are SO RIGHT. The stroke we need to develop is ULTRA PRECISE; so even a good stroke needs refining. I think even the pro's are surprised when Mark works on their stroke and actually improves an already excellent stroke. Don't be discouraged, it has taken me a year of intense practice on this stroke, and it still is not totally natural, and I still can't deliver my best stroke every time (it sounds simple but I think it is devilishly difficult, especially in competition). But during the year my game has continually improved, and just gets more fun every day - keep up the good work (there are no shortcuts).

Willie, I am not going to get discouraged. Like Mark said, if I wasn't willing to practice hard and make a commitment to change my stroke and work on what he taught me I might as well throw my money out in the street as opposed to giving it to him...lol. No matter how demoralizing it is to get stomped by people I should be beating right now, it will be that much sweeter when I'm competing or beating people much better than me now! Thanks for the encouragement.
