Mark: I've taken the liberty of moving your run over to its own post so people can see it more easily. Hopefully, you will get some feedback.

Welcome to the forum.

"Hey Steve, I would appreciate your feedback on my run. This is my 4th day trying and I have had runs in the 20s, 30s and this 41 ball run today. My opinion is my pattern play needs work. 2. I need to have stop shots on my key ball if at all possible. 3. I need to stay down. These 41/4 inch pockets aren't the best conditions for straight pool but it's a convienient pool hall close to me:-). Thanks, Mark

Hey,

I'll take a look at it when I get home and leave some feedback on what I find, before I head put the door for a concert this evening.

Welcome aboard !

Hi Mark, 1st of all, that camera angle is no good, try to put the camera somewhere on the top rail, on a table or even that trash box there.

You have good rhythm and a nice stroke.

I think you waited too long to clear those 3 balls at the top rail, that can cost you easily...always try to open up problems as early as you can and shoot balls on the rails early also. As for a key ball, i like side pocket shots where you can almost stop the cueball. Your keyball in the 1st rack worked, too but you could misjudge speed easy there. I would have used the 6 into the side as key. At 8:26 you shot the ball in without knowing what to shoot next...you broke em nice earlier, take your time there, see if you have a break and keyball, if not figure out a way to get it. Also very important is that ball near the left side pocket. you have to get rid off it asap ! when you shot the 5 i think it is, i would have played high right to catch the 10 slightly and open those 2 balls up. instead you rattled that side pocket shot and had another shot after to break up those 2 balls. often you get a double kiss there and bad position...the cueball hits the rail and the 10 is very close, could easily tie up to the cueball there...you played a nice shot on the keyball to the breakball, but again, very dangerous to come up short or too far. I would have played those 2 balls on the right side and break em again with your keyball. With draw back into the rack and to the right siderail. But that is preference...at 14:32 you really jumped up there....Stay down and FOLLOW THROUGH on thes shots..at 16:13 i would have shot that in the corner, draw back slightly to bump the 6. That puts the 8 down as a breakshot, you have insurance balls with that ball on the rail, the 1 and maybe even the 6, depending on where you hit it when you break em up. By not breaking em up and shooting other balls taht caused the run to end. Like i said, get to the problems asap, the more balls you shoot in, the less options you have later on.

All that is not meant to critsize you too much, i just want to point out some things to you. It´s a nice run there, you will get feedback...pay attention to it. You can also watch a lot of runs here from different guys that will help you and of course accu stats videos.

Keep it up man, higher numbers to come soon for sure.

Thanks Sasha you make all great points! I am making the game look hard at the moment but I am working on it. Sometimes I see the potential problems early but keep getting bad angles to break them up. I'm still not completely confident with all my fundamentals as I have only been playing 4 days after a 15 year break. Once I start feeling more comfortable at the table I hope to improve. You make some great points on key balls potential problems etc.. I really appreciate your time and effort and I will work on all those points and hopefully when I post my next run it will look easier:-). Thanks Again..Mark

You are welcome, man 4 days of playing after 15 years and you run 40 ! thats a good job ! It will help a lot to watch runs but you have to think before each shot. maybe even stop the video, think, what i shoot next, next position, break and key balls ...... the you will see the difference and learn. If you see the patterns to problems focus on position play more on that one shot. If you miss position, re think the layout again, maybe even change it.

Man Sascha, That's extremely noteworthy!! Thank you so much buddy! I think I love this game so much because the balls don't tell you what to do. It's like your painting your own picture and not painting by numbers:-). I have alot of accu-stats videos of high runs, JS, Sigel etc... But watching and executing seem to live in 2 different worlds at times. Your points are valid and I am going to slow down a bit and concentrate on my plan more. When I was playing well years ago I used to try to make all decisions before getting down on the shots. I just want to run balls the right way and by comments from you guys I am hoping to eventually start doing that. I am really appreciative of your input and will look forward to watching you play....Peace, Mark

there you go...you got the videos, maybe you just watch them over again but in a different way now, not just watching a guy shooting balls into holes lol. Of course watching and executing are 2 different worlds, otherwise we all would play much better all the time. Thats what seperates amateurs from the pros. You are right, don´t change that : You have to make your dicision before you get down ! If you still think or have doubts when you are down, get back up and start again.

Nice Shooting Mark,

you shoot at a very nice pace, and it seems like you have a very good decision making process.

the one thing that i have found is that you, like sacha had said are leaving problems for too long. if you go back and review the footage. i noticed right away in the first rack that you kinda created a problem on the bottom rail. be very careful not to run into balls when there is no need too.

also i noticed that you were burning off some of your breakballs prematurly, but with good intension to solve problems. be very careful with that.

you had a few opertunities where you could of created a breakball. the one that sticks in mind was in the last rack, when you had a ball right in front of the bottom left corner. you could of drawn back into the 2 balls that were kissing right up above it moving the top ball up into position for a break and opened up that little problem at the same time. also note that you would of had insurance with the ball that was on the short rail there.

which leads to the next topic, when ever you are gonna try to open up clusters try to do it when you have a defiate insurance ball after it. by no means does that mean you have to die with that insurance ball, it is just protection to garantee that you will definatly will have a shot after solving said problem.

like i said, you shoot real well. just need to work on a few things, such as us all. every rack is different, but there are some rules of thumb. if you keep your mind open to things such as these you will see definate improvements !

Be patient, and watch your speed control !

Welcome Aboard !

Thank you Steve for your input. I have respect for your game and knowledge. I will log all your advice into my brain and try to play better. I knew from watching the run myself I needed to make the key ball a priority and I also don't like bashing into balls with no insurance ball. Hopefully a bigger run will come that looks easier the more I practice. Thank You so much Steve for your much respected review!!

Your very welcome....Its what we all do for each other here...I Am just paying it forward !

the one thing that i noticed also and i failed to mention it in the previous post is, that you are leaving yourself too far a distance away between your Keyball and Breakball. Try to pick a keyball that is in a closer proximity to the breakshot to eleviate getting wrong on the break.

I also recomend playing around with the Brainwash Drill, you can see it demonstrated on Jim Rempe's "How To Run A Rack" & "How to run 100 balls" you can tweak it a little by adding the discipline of not running into another ball as well.

I Look forward to seeing more, and dont sweat the numbers they will come...just try to stay consistant !
