does anyone have an Idea what the markup on a custom cue is? I know it depends on different things but what would an average custom cue be ? Thanks, If I don't get an answer its ok/ thought this would be the place to find out.

I don't think the word "markup" applies to custom cue making. Markup is generally associated with purchasing an item at the wholesale price and selling it at the retail price.

Custom cues are created by the cuemaker from scratch and the cuemaker is paid for his labor, materials and overhead.

JMO,

It all depends on the buyer. If someone wants to pay $x for the cue and it cost you the seller $100 less than he is offering, then that is good.
But the buyer may only want to offer $100 less than what you paid for it, so not so good. But selling a custom cue , makes it no longer custom for that player, unless that person is a similar height and likes a similar weight and balance cue.
The reason I brought a custom cue was to get the weight and balance that I wanted, that was not available in a store offered cue.To sell what I have, I would probably not break even. If the cuemaker was very well known, then the value of the cue would be higher, but also would have to pay more initially.
It all comes down to how much is someone prepared to pay?
As for mark up on a custom, I don't think you can put a percentange on it.

wholesale pricing

Usually, if someone purchases 5 or more cues at one time, I will give them a discount. The discount depends on the cues and the purchaser. Pricing is very touchy subject, it can seem very unfair if not carefully scrutinized. Every cuemaker must decide whether they want to make money today or in the future. No cuemaker wants to see their cues on e-bay for $300.00+ shipping. Pricing also depends on the character of the buyer/wholesaler. I see my wholesalers as ambassadors of myself. Hopefully, all authorized dealers of my cues will contact me if the buyer has any service related issues with my cues. Price is associated with service, ask anyone who has received poor service. Some people are content to buy a "pig in a poke." No one has ever asked me to give them less service. Most cue purchasers forget that a wholesaler provides the service of giving the cuemaker cash for his inventory. This allows me to continue production while paying my bills. Since every custom cue is different, it is hard to identify the discounted amount. In the end, it is very subjective and hard to quantify. Hopefully, I have helped you see how some of the pricing works (at least with my cues). Kent Davis:thumbup:
