Maryland 2010 14.1 Straight Pool Championships

14.1, the Championship Game. Tournaments few and far between, and room owners going out on a limb to host them. Bill Haley's Comet Billiards no more, succumbing immediately after an incredible 2009 World 14.1.

And now a thread dedicated to an upcoming event with stellar players is mostly filled with guys throwing e-punches over the cost of tuna fish sandwiches!

It's a wonder that pool his survived at any level this long.

How about we use this thread to discuss the tournament, not tuna fish or testosterone?

There has really only been one person throwing punches at the room owner. The rest of us have been defending that owner.

You would think that prettyboy would notice that he is the only one complaining here. He may not change his mind but he should at least stop making himself look stupid.

Ok, Mika is not playing. Not sure where that confusion came from!

There will be 7 flights of 5 players each. Top 2 advance as well as 2 wild cards with best record and ball differential.

Play begins at 11:00 Saturday. Draw has been done but I don't remember all:

Thorsten Hohmann, , , , Charlie Eames
Mike Sigel, Danny Barouty,

There was mention of streaming this event... Does anyone have any information regarding the website?

Is there anyone from AZ attending the event as a spectator. Love to get some updates on the matches! Our Steve Lipsky and Don Wardell (williebetmore) are playing. Thanks for the help.

To everyone participating in this thread:
In my opinion, most of you seem like good guys. Sticking up for your friend no matter how right or wrong he is. Thats the sign of a good friend, right? So, I can appreciate where you guys are coming from. I dont see any of you in a negative light for that. As for me, I will continue to feel the same, act the same, and say the same things about him. Nobody in this room knows how bad he screwed me over, to benefit his buddies. Also, I tried the whole face to face approach, and he backed out and couldn't answer for what he did. After that, I vowed to make people aware of his crooked business ethics. If that isn't liked by people who stand by him, so be it. That doesnt mean I will stop though. Im going to jump off this thread here and let you guys have it the way it should be...about the game we all love. I'll end by saying good luck to all that play in the tourn. this weekend. Hopefully, a loyal, local player (except Rick) can pull it off and keep that title true, for the rest of us Marylanders. Play well

The event is streamed although I don't know where. Very helpful, huh? I know it is ustream. Is there a way to search on ustream?

Hi Lyn,

Well I'm NOW a spectator after going 1-3 yesterday! There'll be some great matchups today. There were 7 flights so the top 2 from each flight and 2 wildcards advance to today.

Most of the top players made it through. I'm not sure about Mike Sigel's bracket which was turned upside down by young straightshooter Brian Deska. Brian barely plays straight pool and won the flight from the "C" position. I believe Sigel advanced on ball differential but he also mentioned not coming back today. He may not have realized at the time that he would still make it to Sunday's round depending on the outcome of Brian's last match. That may mean that Danny Barouty did not advance.

Gerda Hofstatter and Zion Zvi were the two wildcards.

I don't know all the matchups but I believe Danny Harriman plays Deska, Charlie Williams plays Gerda Hofstatter and Bobby Hunter plays Thorsten.

Play starts at 10:00 so get there early for a good seat! It was crowded yesterday.

Hi Andy,

My apologies! Didn't put the alinco and Andy Lincoln together. My bad. Any chance you know if Dan Heidrich advanced? He's from our pool room here in Rochester.

At least you played. Peter Burrows called and invited me. Just too rich for my blood right now. Last years entry fee was more like it.

I'm pretty sure Dan advanced. He beat Charlie Williams in his first match. Zion Zvi was the B player in that group and Zion is through on a wildcard spot so that should mean that Dan made it.

I don't know if I'm doing this right, but here's the link on UStream:

http://www.popschlager-tv.de/channel/md-14-1-championship-2010

I just Googled "MD straight pool stream" and found it easily.

Right now it looks like Shaun Wilkie is playing someone. The stream is not exactly TAR quality and there is no commentary, but hey, it's free and much better than nothing.

I saw Brian Deska (don't know if he's still in the tourney) practicing yesterday at Springfield Fast Eddie's and yes, if you look up "straight shooter" in the dictionary I'm pretty sure you'll see his picture.

Hey there,
I did some asking around to find out who you were, and when I did find out I was very disappointed. I would have thought you were above this sort of thing, and bashing someone on a semi-public forum on the Web because of something that happened between you and that person seems out of character for you.

I had thought (perhaps incorrectly) that you were a stand-up guy. You have always treated me with respect, and you have always been cool with me, so imagine my surprise when they told me who you were!

The only thing I can figure is that you are either drunk or high or both when you are typing, or I had you all wrong from the beginning.

I don't care what issues you have with him or his business. I am just disappointed that you would choose to deal with it in this way. I thought you were better than that.

I have something I would like to say about the way things went down earlier this year on this forum. I was very upset about the way things happened between myself and Rick. I put down his business and his ethics out of anger and frustration, when in reality, it should have been handled much better. Recently, Rick and I have made an attempt to bury the hatchet and get back to where things were before all this. I appreciate the fact that he listened to what I had to say and hopefully things will be a lot better in the future. I said a lot of negative things about his pool room, but truthfully, it is one of the better maintained rooms I've been too. I was nitpicking to make my point, but every room has some small defects. Its actually a pretty nice place, and I've heard its even better now than when I was there. For the local guys that were on this thread, I was out of character, and I understand the disappointment, but who I was to all of you, in person, is who I really am. Thanks for listening

I was happy to read this post and I hope to meet you at Big Daddy's some day.

Well said, and it was nice having you back.

Hope to see more of "the real you" in the near future. I need to rob you clowns in a ring game again!
