Maryland State 8-Ball Championship. Saturday February 5, 2011. Frederick, Maryland.

I am glad to see that players are posting that they have fixed up the poolroom.yes I would understand that they are not us open tables but as for people picking apart the tables put me right at the top of this list that all the equipment made a grade f when i played there.as for it causing me to lose any matches maybe, maybe not.you certainly do not see a whole picture here.who would want to play on bad equipment.
equipment is the same for everyone so as a professional player myself I can adjust.the real question would be why were they in such bad condition. If i hear its the economy 1 more time i will throw up.If the conditions are fixed i would consider playing.also if the conditions are fixed I would be willing to also play you or anyone else and not moan or groan or pick apart the equipment.post up and please bet high.

Do you wanna play Josh Brothers a set for 2,000 to 5,000.. This is not talk.. If you want to play him a set of 9-Ball or 10-Ball you have action. Do not use, NO, But I will play you some. I cant beat you or anyone else for that matter. But, beings you said, anyone else can post up and bet high. You have action...

Before you all get too woofy...

Please note the matchup, as presented, is is beyond the control of anyone posting here:

"...also if the conditions are fixed I would be willing to also play you or anyone else..."

(And, IMO...nobody mentioned thus far has to beat my neighbor. It would be gamblin'.)

All Stars has leagues what 7 nights a week? The tables get used an extreme amount from that and regular customers that come in and play. If you're asking for perfect conditions on a $40 entry fee then what are you doing playing in it anyway? The same players come out to these events time and time again and usually the same group of players finishes in the money. This is a place of business out to make money so you can't expect high class conditions. If the entry fee was in the hundreds and they were taking a house cut to fund new cloth and balls then I would agree the conditions should be exceptional. However that is not the case and you figure they lose the Saturday night customers spending table time for these events. This thread is for the Maryland State 8 Ball Championship...not lets trash the pool room or who wants to play who. If you're not playing in it then theres no need to post in here. Back on topic....bump for a good tournament. Good luck with the event Guy, sorry I can't be there just bad timing for me.

A bump to the top for those who may not have seen the ad. The tournament is coming up soon (February the 5th).

Another bump for what should be another great tournament at All-Star.

Good food/drink, great owners, and the tournament runs smoothly.

Larry, Tiny, Peggy, Guy and all the rest make this a fun event every time.

So what you are saying, you would be willing to play Ryan McCreash,
Josh Brothers, Matt Clatterbuck, or even Shaun Wilikie some even for the cash, even after he double dipped you last week. I am not saying you would not.. I hope you pack a lunch and your wallet.. You will need it.

well tell the whole story he knocked shaun into the losers bracket with a lopsided victory , and he has a better chance of beating any one of them in 8,9,or 10 ball than they do beating him in straight pool

The tournament is coming up this Saturday, February the 5th. The promoters have tried hard for balance to bring everyone out with the following:

* Format: This is an open event and encourages participation by players from all states, juniors, women, amateurs, and pros alike.

* For the top players: It’s a one-day event so (typically) no one has the added expense of a motel room. The payouts are reasonable for a one-day tournament considering the regular payouts plus the player’s auction.

* For amateurs and league players: The entry fee was kept as low as possible at $40 to encourage your participation. The alternate break format guarantees that you’ll have playing time even if you draw a top player. You’ll be at the table breaking every other game and not just watching a top player string racks together. The 8-ball format also helps since even top players don’t (typically) break and run as many racks in 8-ball as they would in 9-ball. This means you should get to the table more often. What you do then is up to you, but this is a great event for testing your game against your peers and also the best.

* For spectators: All-Star Billiards is a friendly, family-run room with good food and drink. It also has an open layout so spectators can easily follow their favorite players or featured matches.

As mentioned in other posts, everyone in the general Maryland/Northern Virginia area is trying hard to build up a regular tournament scene. This can’t happen without your support. Please consider participating in the Big Daddy’s, Champions, Planet Pool, and other events posted here on AZ. Thanks and good luck to all.

I heard this past Saturday that there were still plenty of slots left. Experience with this tournament is that most sign up the morning of the event.

Just to be sure, please call the room at 301-668-5668 and ask for Peggy or Larry to confirm this as of today's date.

A bump for two days to the event.

For those who have asked about possible bad weather and the tournament, the forecast calls for a chance of a wintry mix in the very early morning hours changing to rain during the day. The tournament is on as scheduled.

I signed up on site yesterday. There was a decent amount of people on the list as paid, many top names not included. Im sure most will show up day of and I am sure this event will fill up

One last bump. The event is tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for their interest and support. Good luck to all.

Quite a turnout! The 64 cutoff was met by 9:30 AM or so and the place was full of spectators. The tables played well. Matches were called quickly. I wish I won more than one match, but had a good time. Thanks for having it!

A full field of 64 players turned out on February 5, 2011 for the Maryland State 8-Ball Championship. The event was hosted by All-Star Billiards in Frederick, Maryland. Players came from Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York (sorry if I missed any states). Notable players included Alan Duty, Matt Krau, Tony Long, Ryan McCreesh, Mike Sigel, Megan Smith, Brett Stottlemyer, Kevin West, and Shaun Wilkie among many others. The final came down to a single race to 7 games (must win by 2 games) between Brett Stottlemyer and Shaun Wilkie, with Brett coming away with the win.

Some photos are included below. The picture with three people is, from left to right, Brett Stottlemyer, Tournament Director Larry Nicholson, and Shaun Wilkie. The final was also recorded in HD video and I was told it will be posted on YouTube.

Top Results (payouts went down through the top 16 players as listed in the event flyer above. Player auction payouts went down through the top 8):

1st: Brett Stottlemyer ($1,150 including player auction)
2nd: Shaun Wilkie ($675 including player auction)
3rd: Leroy Davis ($410 including player auction)

Many thanks to the participants, spectators, and Larry, Tiny, Peggy and the staff of All-Star Billiards for making the event a success.
