What are some of the best way you match up with players for a 3 Cushion game? Table Time, handicapped point, or dollars per point???

Not exactly sure what you're asking for, so here are a few thoughts:

Playing for time is very friendly and common amung billiard players. Of course you can play for a small amount of cash plus the time if both agree.

It's not very common to play by the point, but anything goes if you're both consenting adults :wink:.

If you are playing someone that you know how each other play, you can spot points on the wire to whatever you want to go to;

you can play optional cue ball to eliminate safety play;

you can play 2 or no count, 3 or no count, etc., which means that you don't get to put points on the wire unless you run the pre determined amount first;

You can let one of the players move the cueball a hand span distance before their first shot (or some other amount such as 2 inches, etc). This allows the weaker player to have a better chance of a decent opening shot (the cueball can be moved any direction that amount);

You can play opposite handed or one handed. You can alternate playing hand and opposite hand or any other variation you may think of to make a game even (or so your opponent thinks);

I have even played someone that said for every billiard he makes, I have to take one off my score.

Here's a fun story about giving weight: I used to play a friend of mine, Carl for those from the bay area, for $10 giving him pretty good weight (at the end it was 25 to 50). He stopped playing me so I asked him what would make you play me again, he said I would have to play 7 or no count. I thought about it and said OK, I need to make 1 run of 7 before he makes 25 points. He couldn't say no because everyone heard. We didn't play again after that :grin:. I figured it takes Carl at least 50 innings to get to 25 so I had that many chances to run 1 seven.

The moral of the story is the sky's the limit-use your imagination and have fun.

Thank Dave this basic what I was asking about. Can anyone else add to this?

You can also play shorter games to help even things up. If someone is a little better than you, than if you play 25-50 points the better palyer will win more often - the longer the race, the better the chance the best player will win. But if you play to games to 5 or 10 or 15, the weaker player will have a better chance and it becomes more even. And if you get the break as a spot, the shorter the game the bigger that spot.
