Qatar 9 ball Open (Oct 4-8) which clashes with this event has bigger prize fund of $300K (winner $50K)

This is list of invited players for Qatar Open (not final subject to change) http://www.esnooker.pl/turnieje/2023/qo9bc/en/show_list_players5.php
However Qatar Open only has 14x800+ players so it weaker field than Peri Open

Alexandros Kazakis
Oliver Szolnoki
Naoyuki Oi
Carlo Biado
Wojciech Szewczyk
Wiktor Zielinski
Pin Yi Ko

Backdrop to these 2 conflicting dates of these events is the "fight" between WPA and Matchroom. Picture may be clearer when WPA General Assembly meets in Qatar later this week on Oct7 to discuss "enforcing rules included within the WPA player agreement" https://www.azbilliards.com/wpa-press-release-player-restriction-clarification/

Well this is not good for the fans who want to see all the best players in one event.., but it is good for the players as it gives the guys who aren't favorited to win a thinner field to fight through?

Still killers at every turn, but a better chance to cash than with the whole world being in one event?

yep, the winners of both events will have an easier way to the trophy than usual. it's not good for the fans, which is why i hope the WPA/ACBS and matchroom will sit down and sort things out. but even if they do there will likely be some scheduling conflicts also in the future, simply because of the multitude of new events being put on.

kinda cool seeing FSR landing in hanoi and being greeted by fans with flowers. i've seen this before in clips from vietnam, when efren travelled there hundreds of fans ambushed him at the airport. they sure love their cue sports over there.
Win or lose, imagine being able to travel to all these exotic places around the world playing the game you love. I wonder if some of our lower ranked players like Thorpe and Ussery get travel stipends from sponsors? Has to be an expensive trip...

Yes. Basically, the players divide and conquer which is not good for fans cos fans want to see all best of the best play.
So it is missed opportunity having 34x800+ players in 1 event which would be a record number of 800+ and strongest field of this decade/era. Instead it is split 20x800+ here and 14x800+ in Qatar.
Though the inaugural major Hanoi Open (Oct 10-15) after this event will be record strongest field if all those from Qatar Open turn up. cos no event has had 30 or more 800+ players.

FSR is not as shameless as Naoyuki Oi 🤣

I think the onset of big-time events in pro pool in Vietnam is something to get excited about. Matchroom's efforts to bring pro pool to every corner of the globe are paying big dividends for players and fans alike. Good luck to all these fine players.

Oh, if this event is anything like the Viet billiards one I saw there, it will be madness. In a good way.

The fans were fired up and into it!
