Matchroom / WPA Legal Wranglings

League national events in NV often have at least 3 yrs of timelines already in place.
I would guess would like to have this date finally in 2025 calendar, so that continent federations could finalise their calendars. Since this is World Championships, no conflict should occur with any other major competition. EPBF calendar for 2025, at least its first iteration, was available couple months ago already.

The organizations fight, the players get limited choices, and the fans just want to see good pool. Seems bad vibes all around to me. But what do I know? I'm just a fan. Maybe becoming less of one...
The WPA reminds me of how old Britain tried to hold on to its old colonial outposts around the world. They were clueless and didn't notice the world passing them by. The WPA is the party that's out-of-line here. All they do is collect sanction fees and make promoters 'kiss the ring' in order to have a WPA event. MR/WNT(and the WST) are modern forward looking outfit that wants pro pool to grow/prosper. WPA acts all holier than thou and are nothing but an impediment to pro pool's growth. They think that snoozefest known as Heyball is going to be pool's salvation. WTF are they smoking???

Inside every dark cloud is a silver lining. Has anyone else noticed that while all this squabbling being the WPA and WNT is going on the prize money keeps increasing. Fedor won right at 500K this year! I can remember, even recently, when the top money earners were barely making 100K. I learned long ago that competition is good for the marketplace. Notice all the car dealerships all bunched together.

The best possible conclusion for the true pro pool players (and the two organizations) is to be allowed to play in any tournament they want as long as it doesn't conflict with another event being held at the same time. This would also be the best possible result for both the WPA and WNT and pro pool in general. They would both get to feature all the top players and thus have successful events. Okay, so now I've mediated this for them without charge. Maybe cooler (and smarter) heads will finally prevail in this stupid game of one-upmanship.
The only caveat I’ll make is the money is coming in via sportswashing governments. Personally I don’t mind it. But we have to recognize that money isn’t coming off the commercial merits of the sport as much as it is a handout that can go as easily as it comes. That said, it’s still a boon and hopefully attracts prestige to the sport so that more merit-based opportunities follow like fan engagement, sponsors, broadcasters, and advertisers.

The WPC deal with the Saudis runs another nine years. Good news is the money won't go away quickly. The Qatar 10 Ball Open runs till 2028.

Panazzo always complains about the needs to be a season of sorts for the pro tour. A beginning and an end of the season.

Not just a bunch of events seemingly random. Post-Mosconi there has been a surprising number of events bunched up.

Given how hard it is to make money in pro pool, I am sure the players don't mind a million events throughout the year. But it doesn't advance pool as a sport.

Obv MR is trying to create a regular 9 Ball tour with a beginning and end. Do well and the best of the best play in the Reyes or Mosconi at season's end if you get enough rating points.

Begs the question: Should there be a World 10 Ball Tour, assuming MR and WPA eventually work things out? How would it fit in? Who would run it?

Lots of questions. Don't expect any answers soon ...

Does anyone know if WNT players are banned from the Alfa tournament in Vegas this February?
As a general rule WNT players can go where they want as long as it doesn't interfere with a WNT event at same time. For definite answer you need to just email Matchroom or Predator, they both usually answer pretty quik. I just looked at the entry form and it IS a WPA sanctioned event. Make of this what you want. The WPA are the ones in the banning biz.

LV Open is WPA sanctioned.
However, the multiple invitationals at this PBS fiesta  such as Bank Pool, 1P, wheelchair are not WPA sanctioned

yea but WPA can force predator to not allow them. and i don't think predator can do the unsanctioned thing for open events or they'll get the WPA hammer too

Predator unsanctioned recent Puerto Rico Open so they have done it. I think WPA will not be tough with PBS now cos if PBS also bail out like MR, the 2 biggest tours will be out and WPA will be caught with pants down :ROFLMAO:

i'm sure their idiocy would triumph over their self-preservation at some point

WPA updated their sanctioning guidelines. You need $40k+ added money to require sanctioning now. The prize fund of the Puerto Rico Open is $64k. I don’t know how much was added funds but I’m sure it’s less than $40k. So Predator’s unsanctioned event wasn’t an act of defiance. It was just not required.
