I was reading the Dennis vs Tony thread and combined with reading an untold number if threads on here concerning cues and tables I have determined I have been thinking wrong my whole life.

I always thought the cue reacted to signals from your stroke. The cue ball reacted to how you struck it with your cue. The object ball reacted to how it was struck by the cue ball. I always thought when I had a bad day it was due to the space between my ears.

Reading about how Dennis was playing bad due to shooting with a meucci and how the table played I finally realized.....it aint my fault when I have a bad day !

It's the cue....no wait its the table...no wait its those damn cyclops balls...no Wai its the lighting. It's any things fault besides the space between my ears.

Thanks guys for showing me the light. It's gonna really soothe my ego from now on when I have a bad day .:grin-square:

Btw.... I went from a 5 to a 6 after switching to a meucci and I now blame it on the cue.

You might be right.
I just bought a $900 Schon cue and it hasn't improved my game one bit in the past three years.
BTW: I'm still a Level 2

I know you're being a bit of a wise guy....but you're right about the space between your ears.
But you're making light of recognizing the conditions you're playing under.
If you don't understand exactly how your cue reacts, what the cloth is like, (installers stretch
differently), what each cue ball does in relation to the object balls you're using, the climate
of the room, and how that can change with more people around.....etc.

....so that space between your ears has to understand WHY things are happening.

I saw a good player once miss a spin shot....and for the rest of the session he dogged his
brains out....because he didn't understand that he was playing with a magnetic cue ball...
....and it was weighted off-center.

Understanding why you mess up is so important...some people think they're taking the high
road by blaming it on their stroke....when it might be they don't understand the physics.

Lots of the current players have little or no experience with either the magnetic cue ball or the oversized cue ball. Really got a feeling talking to Larry Hubbart and Tracy Joe Salazar. The "kids" today have no idea of what tough really is!

You mentioned the big cue-ball. The best i've ever seen with the "grapefruit" was David Matlock. He played a lot of 3c growing up and had/has a tremendously powerful stroke. That along with his knowledge came in real handy playing all those big money matches on the bar-box. Dave can do things with the big ball that i've never seen any other player even try. Different game/different time but man it was fun to watch.

Guilty as charged pt. :embarrassed2:

I am well aware of how cues cues do play differently...and tables too for that matter.

I just found it humorous that it only took the 3 rd post in the Dennis vs Tony thread for some one to suggest Dennis should change cues due to Dennis's poor play. Several others joined the should change cues bandwagon also. It's somewhat understandable though when you look at meuccis reputation.

That talk stopped once dennis started making it a close game....with the same cue btw. Guess those guys missed jay's post where he alluded to dennis not having the problems adjusting to his meucci like he did when he first started playing with a tiger. He also stated dennis loved his meucci and was playing better than ever. He also just took down several heavy hitters the week before in a one pocket tournament with that same cue.

And there were several references to the table but I always say...my opponent and I are playing on the same table so what goes for me goes for him also. There is however the stipulation that one player may be used to how that table plays more than his opponent is.

It just strikes me funny how pool players are always quick to blame everything but the person shooting for a bad day .

Mike Sigel once told me "if it takes him more than one rack of balls to get used to a new table, he was in trouble". In the end, it's the five and one inches btween your ears that is the real difference. PERIOD!

And when you say EVERYTHING, by god it is EVERYTHING!! IMO only, this is and American thing. Part of the reason we suck on a global level. We are the whinest, *****inest, pool playing pussies on the planet!
One of the things that made Efren so great, was he never *****ed, cried, sharked, or gave up. He just played pool.
EVERYTHING becomes an excuse to lose.
If I had to guess, Dennis probably didn't make any excuses. He's probably hitting balls on that table, waiting on Tony to tell him when they can play again.

You got that right! I always kept several cue balls. Still have an oversize cb. Always get a kick out of it when I set a ball froze to the rail and then give them that oversize cb and ask them to run that ob down the rail into the pocket.

FWIW, I think I'd rather play with the oversize cue ball than that measle ball.
