Maybe there is hope for pool yet

I don't know if it's just me or not but there seems to be a lot of new members here lately. Has anyone else noticed a big influx of new members. I am curious as to what sort of venue these new members play in ie. bar or poolroom. Maybe that would be an interesting poll. It certainly would help us take the temperature of the current state of the game. Do they play on 7 or 9 footers? Comments?

I was thinking the same thing. Of course perception doesn't always equal reality but who knows. Another thing I've noticed that is completely anecdotal evidence is all the new faces I've been seeing at my local poolroom lately. I've been going there multiple times a week for the last 3 years, and when I first started going there were a handful of regulars and so little business I couldn't believe they were keeping the lights on. Now when I go there I always see new people and often see them multiple times so they are coming back. Also, I heard from the houseman that a couple of weeks ago all the tables were in use, and they actually had a waiting list going for the first time in several years.

That's terrific! Great news and a poolroom too. I think I notice the same in my room but not quite to that extent.

So you see "what cue should I get" or "what's the difference in shafts/tips/cues/tables/cloth, etc..." go in a cycle every week or every few weeks.

Not that there is anything wrong with the questions, I just find it amusing that it's so predictable.

I'm newer here and i play on seven foot tables all the time. But last night i played on a nine footer. The table was fun.

As far as the sport being dead i don't believe it is in my area. I hate going out and shooting on league night the places are always packed.

I imagine that is the reason many join. After reading what is here for a while, they want to participate in a discussion on topics they are interested in. Insisting that new members simply do a search and only post something new would limit the number of new members.

You're right. Patience. If we are going to promote the game we need to nurture the new players rather than be sarcastic with them and lament that pool is dying

Stay out of the bars and frequent POOLROOMS with 9 footers. It's the ONLY place to really learn the game. the education you get there will be money in your pocket for years to come.

Play on whatever table size you like, just make sure the equipment is playable enough and keep practicing. Many people here can help you with that
