McDermott shaft dimeter at joint?

What is the joint dimeter at the joint on their standerd 3/8 10 shaft?

Thanks Rick.

Nominal diameter is .850".
That's not cast in stone. I have seen them @ .830" & .865".

Depending on the finish thickness, I have seen them from .820 to .860. The steel jointed McD's usually are closer to the same diameters. It just depends on how agressive the employees are when polishing out the cues with the plastic joints.

So if i read this right production cues don't use some sort of sanding mandrel?

Nope.

Age and model of the cue also plays a roll in the joint diameter. Earlier McD models had a larger joint diameter and a shorter shaft taper. They played much stiffer than the newer models.

Absolutely. New McD's don't play like old McD's. That why I tell people to look for old D series cues.

This is right! McDermott is the worse for the collar diameters...on all the older cues.

I don't know about the new cues though.

And if you see a factory 2nd, you can be sure the collar diameter might be smaller yet.
