Anyone walking around with Mcdermott cues and how is it? About to buy one and i was wondering about your opinions. And then the I shafts... is it worth getting one or is the one that comes with the butt ok?

While I am not a huge fan of McDermott, i have test hit with an I2 shaft and must say that I prefer it over the stock shaft. I felt that the hit felt dulled on the stock shaft, and that if I were to ever purchase a McDermott for myself I would want to invest in an aftermarket shaft. Of course what do I know about hit, I play with a 314, right guys? ;) :p

I have the new i3 shaft and the hit is accurate, but the shaft is only
11 3/4 in diameter. Too small for me. the ferrule is the same size as the morri tip. Retails for 249.00. Great shaft if you have small hands.

I have 15 Cues I play mainly with a McDermott Knight with an I-2 shaft and love it!

I have McDermott break and playing cues that I use all the time at home. The only time I don't use them is if I go to a bar or any other place that I may have to worry about the cue being damaged. In those instances I have a Cuetec that I take. Both my cues were in the $300-$350 range and I have no complaints with either of them.

The I-shafts aren't worth the money, but if you want to know more PM me.

I have owned all three I-shafts. Predator, and OB-1 are far superior products.

I had the opportunity to meet Thomas Engert at the recent World Straight Pool Championship and was very surprised to find out that he used an older McDermott cue with an I3 shaft.

I have seen this cue many times on tv and liked the look of it. In person it looked like a custom cue, probably when McDermott made cues in smaller quantities. I am not a McDermott historian so maybe someone could shed some light on the older McDermotts.

I now use a James White that I love but before that used a McDermott Bridgeport C with a 314 shaft with custom fitted rings that I bought from Seyberts. I liked it when I used it.

Hope this helps.

I have had a McDermott D21 as my primary playing cue for 20+ years. I use a Predator Z shaft with it and it works for me. I've never tried any of the I-shafts from McDermott. No reason for that. I just like the Predator shafts and I stick with works for me.

The older McDermotts were very well made, especially if you find something made prior to TCOM, like the C & D series. Below is a link to the McDermott site which will give you more information - FWIW, I have also owned/used the C17 and C21 - with original shafts - very good cues. All of the cues in these series appreciate in value - they are quite expensive, and I would guess they would be hard to find.

I use a McDermott sometimes. I like the I3 shaft it has a better feel. What type of McDermott are you gonna buy?

i am currently looking at the bristlecone II, in the professional series, just dont know if u should buy another shaft like the I2, 314 or OB

I purchased a McDermott M7-2G Tahoe about 3 months ago and I really like it. I just recieved an I-2 shaft on Friday and it has improved my game over the stock 13 mm shaft a good bit. Mainly as far as ball control goes. I'm coming back after a 18 or so year layoff so I dont have a whole lot to compare it to as far as this new cool and groovy stuff thats out now a days goes. I ordered the I-2 because I shot with a Predator Z one night and didnt like it at all, it would fit my McDermott shaft correctly with no adjustment,, has the same lifetime warranty their sticks have, and had a good feel all the way around.
Some people say it makes the fron of the cue lighter and screws with your stroke. I didnt feel much of a difference and it only took me about 4 or 5 storkes to get in the groove. It just comes down to what you feel comfortable with.

I have owned 5 Mcdermott cues over the years. They are a great cue for the money. What gets me is that their cue specifications are all over the place. That is the shaft tapers can be different from cue to cue. The same goes for the diameter at the joint and at the end of the butt. The balance point can also be diferent from cue to cue. This tells me that McDermott is producing a heck of alot of cues. Nothing wrong with that as long as the quality does not go down. Try to find a dealer that has a large selection of cues so you can find one that feels right for you.

I-2

I have played with the OB-1's and Predators, but as for me I prefer the I-2over any of the aftermarket shafts. I love the hit.

This is also my experience!

My I-2 has improved my total game ! much more control with much less power ! the combination to heaven :)

I currently play with a McDermott and an OB-1 shaft.

I feel like I play as good or better with a McDermott as I have with any other cue I have ever owned and I have owned A LOT of cues in 20+ years...

Archer, not arrow.

I have to admit that I have never played with any after-market shaft except the OB-1.

I never felt like they would make that much difference, but my OB-1 makes a big difference.

Maybe I just got lucky and landed on something that works for me.

u played with a 314 mckinney? if u did how u compare that with the OB shaft?

I have played with both, and they are very comparable shafts. Meaning they both do almost the same job. However they both have a different feeling hit. So I advise people to hit with both and buy the one they like best based on the hit.

Bval can tell you the same thing. He has both, and they both have the same tips put on them.
