Yup. And even if someone here works for them, they should say call the shop. And if they don't, they're probably not doing their job correctly.
I get questions every day in my work about things regarding the medical exams for doctors. Do I think I know the answer? Yup. I get all the notifications about the rules and regulations, and have a login for the website, but I don't work for them. What do I tell the client? Call the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Knowing something and believing you know something are two different things.
If one of us says yes, they did it for me last week, and he sends his cue in next week and they changed their policy or procedure, then the outcome is bad.
I wouldn't try to speak for McDermott any more than I would try to speak for a custom cue maker.
"Retaining?" Lastly, that question has a problem built in. It depends on how much sanding is required. The refinisher has no idea if that request is reasonable at all without the cue in hand. I have seen the logo retained but be very vague. It also depends on whether they need to replace the butt cap, and then whether or not they are re-stamping an old logo.
So in general the best answer a shop will give you is that they will know when they see it, but can't guarantee that sanding won't destroy the logo.
Even with the cue in hand to inspect, many refinishers will say "I'll try, but no guarantee" when it comes to preserving logos and signatures.
