McDermott G-Core Shaft for CAROM?

I'm teaching a younger fella the game. He is using a McDermott 13mm and the shaft feels pretty flimsy. Is anyone familiar with the G-Core Shaft that McD is offering as a direct replacement, and could this be a comparable upgrade for Carom? I figured he could spend just a little to get by for a while. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Longoni used to have what they called 1 Star cues. It was their economy cue. Went to the site and they don't show anything cheaper than 3 Star. I suspect that the 1 and 2 Star cues are a special order and private lable ie Atremis. Just a guess. Take a look at the links below for some inexpensive Carom cues.

Although the G Force sounds like it has some possibilities the taper is so long and it is made for pool I'd say it's a gamble. I suppose you could try it for a couple of hits and return it if it's not stiff enough. You'd have to ask them.

Thanks KUSH, definately affordable cues... no sense in buying a shaft when he can get it for that price. I appreciate the info. ...B
 
I would not hesitate in asking the younger fellow to buy a carom cue. For years when I was beginning the game I was using a pool cue.:frown:

I purchased a Buffalo Carom cue (made by Adam) for 150 usd plus shipping from a fella from San Diego California. I am a lot happier with the cue.:)

I also saw in the last professor q ball magazine that he has a line of three cushion cues now.
 
Weight

Does McDermott state what the weight of the G Core shafts are? I also considered the I 1 shaft at one time but they are fairly light for carom I would think. BTW the only difference in the I 1,2,3 shafts is the thickness/ taper of the shaft diameter they are all identical inside..
