Wow, that's one hell of a field.

With the McDermott Open and Super Billiards Expo back- to-back, several of the elite chose to make the trip. This is progress with respect to scheduling. Having two WNT ranking events just a three hour drive apart in consecutive weeks makes life a little easier on those who try to make a living from pool.

May the best man win!

And the winner was Eklent Kaci, defeating Shaw and FSR in the semifinals and finals today. After his poor showing a couple weeks ago in the Premier League event (losing 11 of his 15 matches), Kaci seems to have upped his level of play and may be on his way to some really good performances in the events ahead this year.

Yes, he has been inconsistent for the length of his career, but when Kaci has it going, he is a very hard guy to beat. Wish him luck at Super Billiards and at the WNT majors.

I was on the rail watching Eklent in a match between him and Shuff and in my long (over 50 yrs) involvement in pool I had never witnessed any player exhibit more focus on every single shot than he dud in that match. It didn't matter whether it was a 2 footer straight into a corner or a jacked up 9 1/2 footer diagonally corner to corner, he showed the same laser focus on them all. And it wasn't at a slow pace that could have made it difficult o watch, in fact, it was just the opposite for me.

He reportedly had a recent weight loss of approx 20 lbs, he may be getting ready to do some great things, again.

After that match I was chatting with him and I brought up that unreal set of 10b he played on Alex P at Freezers Icehouse in AZ 7 or 8 years ago which was one of the strongest rotation pool sets I have ever seen and he told me that he had been gambling all night the night before then went to his room and got an hour of sleep max just before reporting back to the event where he playerd this most impressive set. He said it was like his arm was on autopilot.

Here is the set from Freezers:

These Albanians are tuff cars. We recently had a road player come thru Okla. who is from there. AFAIK the cat didn't book a loser. They must have a good national program like Poland and other Euro locales.
